Going back to school to code for non-profits
I have spent my life helping others. I tweeted as ComcastBonnie on Twitter for a few years, helping thousands of people with their problems. I met many wonderful people who became good friends from that job. I won Comcast's only customer service award, and also got featured in The New York Times for being an early adopter of Twitter for use in the corporate world.
I took in a domestic violence victim and their four year old child, which depleted my 401k. They lived with my husband and I for a year, and are now flourishing on their own.
I recently dropped everything to fly to Detroit from Denver to help an internet friend who was suicidal. They're doing much better now, and I am happy to have helped. Now, I need some help to continue my passion for helping others.
My ultimate goal is to contribute to the standards that make the internet what it is. I know the internet connects us all in many wonderful ways (like GoFundMe!). I want to continue building upon the internet's foundations, to make the internet an even more amazing place, to help make the world a better place.
My next step in life is with the Flatiron School. They've offered me a $3500 scholarship, and a decent payment plan. The only problem is the $1,000 deposit in July. I have to move in June, and I'm unemployed. My husband can cover our move but not my deposit. I need this to be able to move forward with my life goals. I want to maximize the number of people who will be impacted by my help, but I can't do that without the help of others.
I rarely ask for help for myself, but this is one of those times I could sure use a little boost to get me ahead.
