Pamela Dore Alford's Recovery

Donation protected
Pamela Dore Alford has helped raise awareness, support, and funds, for countless causes and individuals over the past few decades. She has also helped numerous friends’ transition, in their final days. Her expertise lies not only in fundraising for others, but also in event coordination.

Pamela has been suffering with systemic degeneration, originating from a car accident in college, in which she flipped and rolled 100 feet down a ravine.  She has also endured multiple surgeries: 1 from cancer, 4 on her shoulder, and 6-7 on her knee. All this has resulted in bone spurs, arthritis, nerve impingements, and chronic pain.

This road has led to the need for an artificial disc replacement (ADR) surgery, which would replace the discs in her cervical spine at C-4/5 and C- 5/6, as well as the L4/5 in her lumbar. Unfortunately, the most common spinal surgeries in the US are disc fusions, which lead to limited movement.

For this reason, Pam and her husband, Pete, flew to Germany on 10/26, where ADR surgery has been practiced extensively, with more advanced equipment. On 10/29, she successfully underwent these extensive procedures. After her 8 days in the spinal surgery hospital (ONZ), she has moved to an in-house rehabilitation facility, with 24-hour care for several more weeks.

When healed, the new cervical discs, (the M-6 or Prodisc-C Vivo), will allow movement in all 6 degrees of motion, mimicking a healthy, natural disc. The lumbar disc will be a TOPS system or Naxux, (prima spine), artificial disc. Her intensive rehabilitation will consist of 4-7 daily sessions to fast track her recovery.

Her travel, hospital, and medical expenses have already been covered out of pocket. But there will be 3-6+ months of PT, and a long road to full recovery. This Go Fund Me is designed to help in her post-opt expenses that will aid in her healing.

Pamela lives in Park City with her husband Pete Olson and her mischievous Samoyed dog, Bijorn. Thank you all for supporting Pam by donating or sharing this page. Rather than texting her, we welcome you to leave any comments, concerns, or well wishes here, on her Go Fund Me page, where she may focus on them when she’s further along in her recovery.
