I awoke this morning as I typically do at 4:30 AM, upon hearing the unforgiving sound of the alarm clock, and I staggered out of bed and across the hall into the boys’ room, to check on my angelic Izzy. I gently and hesitantly placed my hand upon his chest to ensure that he was still breathing. Although this is an atypical manner in which a parent awakens, I responded by expressing my deepest gratitude towards the benevolent God, for renewing Izzy’s contract with life, for yet another day. This is how my every day typically commences, as I have truly learned to not take a single day of the renewed gift of life for granted, especially in relationship to my angelic Izzy, whose tenuous life is more blatantly in the merciful hands of the almighty God. As I observed my peacefully sleeping angel, I noted that today marked 50 days to six; exactly 50 days away from the celebration of Izzy's sixth birthday, according to the lunar calendar, which will, God willing transpire on Sept 22. This bittersweet moment, actualized in my mind, underscored the reality that Izzy will, God willing, be attaining the milestone of completing another year of life, which also conveys that he is a year closer to his medically projected life expectancy, of 8 to 9 fleeting years upon this transient earth. I, along with the plethora of individuals, affectionately referred to as "Team Izzy", continue to pray for my angelic child on a daily basis, in the hopes that our most fervent prayers will breach and penetrate the merciful gates of heaven, and procure the desperately beseech miracle, that our father in heaven will miraculously cure my angelic Izzy.
With the upcoming event of the celebration of a six-year-old's birthday, most families would typically be planning a party to enhance the celebration. Most would characteristically be giving consideration to birthday party themes; Disney, sports, or some other leitmotifs that are representative of the young child's likings. However, as Izzy's physical and cognitive regression, continues their slow but steady infiltration of his various body systems, he displays no recognition whatsoever, of these various children's iconic symbolisms, or for that matter, of little else. So how does one pay homage to the benevolent God for mercifully enabling Izzy to reach this cherished milestone, in a manner which would be beneficial for our entire family? As I have done for the past previous two years, I plan on celebrating Izzy's birthday via a religious celebratory dinner, known as a Siyum, (Click on Link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siyum ), reveling in my completion of a unit of God's holy Scriptures, in this case, a tractate of the holy Talmud. There are historical sources, indicating the significance of this religious celebration, which is deemed meritorious in the eyes of the Omnipresent God, for all who partake in the festivities. My intent is that this religious celebration, being orchestrated in Izzy's honor, should serve meritoriously upon his behalf, as I continue to beseech from the benevolent God, for a titanic measure of mercy, as it pertains to Izzy's ominous current diagnosis and future prognosis.
I have, therefore, decided to commence a fundraiser, whose proceeds will assist in sponsoring the celebratory meal, as well as financially assist in our ability to upgrade Izzy’s signature "tomato chair", in which he spends the majority of his days. Due to the recent exacerbation of scoliosis in his back, (Click on Link: http://www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/guide/arthritis-scoliosis ), a curvature of the spine, which will most likely result in significant pain for my pristine Angel if it continues to become significantly degenerative, Izzy's therapists are recommending that we purchase a specific ergonomically designed chair that has multifaceted positions for comfort, and which would ease the significant pressure that is currently weighing upon Izzy's back. These chairs can run in excess of $2,000 (not a typo!), in which a significant percentage of the cost is not covered by medical insurance. Therefore, I am immediately activating a GoFundMe account, in order to raise the necessary funds, not only for Izzy's celebratory birthday meal, but also to be financially solvent be able to upgrade Izzy’s comfort on a continuous basis. All residual funds will be applied to Izzys much-needed Feldenkrais therapy sessions, whose out of pocket costs are an exorbitant $125 per session.
We are seeking sponsors to help defray the cost of this joint endeavor, and with the continued benevolence of so many across the world, we will hopefully attain our goal upon Izzy's behalf. May those who continue to be supportive of Izzy's journey, in every sense of the word, be boundlessly blessed by the Almighty God, and may you and your families experience only good tidings, in the best of health.
