After a 4-6 start to the season, the Green Bay Packers have an opportunity to close the season with six straight wins to clinch a playoff berth for the 7th straight season. What is the reason for this late-season success? Was it Aaron Rodgers’ visit to the sideline tent in Philadelphia? Was it Ty Montgomery’s move to running back after both Lacy and Starks went down? Maybe, maybe not. One thing has been consistent throughout the Packers season however: every time Michael Curran or Charlie Houser attended a game, the Packers won.
But who are these people and why should you care? Raised in Green Bay, Mike has been a devout Packer fan his entire life, attending games whenever he could get his hands on tickets. Charlie, an Iowa transplant, has always cheered for the Hawkeyes on the Green Bay Packers (Mike Daniels, Brian Bulaga and Micah Hyde) but fully adopted the Packers as his team when he attended Marquette University with Mike.
This season Mike and Charlie attended seven Packers games, during which the Packers went 7-0:
This includes victories over the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings, both higher ranked within the division at the time, playoff teams including the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders and Houston Texans, and long-time Packers rivals, the Chicago Bears. It’s fair to say Mike and Charlie are lucky charms for the Pack. Not only did the Packers win these games, but they performed much better with Mike and Charlie in the stands:
Granted, all of the games Mike and Charlie attended were at home, but even compared against other home games the Pack performed much better with their lucky charms watching. In the three home games Mike and Charlie did not attend, the Packers went 1-2 and had a turnover margin of -2, versus a margin of +14 while the lucky charms attended (green bars represent games the lucky charms attended).
Assuming a victory or tie against the Detroit Lions this weekend, the Packers will clinch a 1st round playoff game in Lambeau Field next weekend. Packers fans, to guarantee victory there is one clear solution… Send Mike and Charlie to the game. Our donation request will encompass tickets to the game and transportation to and from Milwaukee. If we do not reach our goal, we will host a game watch party. If we exceed our goal, we will invite other lucky charms to join us.
