Chris & Wegener's Granulomatosis

My name is Leanne Fera and I live next door to Chris, Amanda, Braden and Brooklin White.

First and foremost please not forget that over the course of the last year Amanda has worked to recognize the care they received last year when Brooklin required emergency surgery and Ronald McDonald House in London was there to help them.  Through selfless acts she provided and docated money and food to the Inn of The Good Shepherd and Ronald McDonald House with no questions asked!

7 weeks ago Chris  started not  feeling well and over the course of the following weeks visited our local emergency room dept on more than one occassion and was treated for sinus infection and pnemonia. With declining health the prescriptions were changed in the hopes of a change. Xrays were finally taken and Chris and Amanda were advised that he had "nodes" of some kind on his lungs and they would make arrangements to see a specialist. It was discussed locally that perhaps these were symtons on Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Health continued to declined and after much conversation (a stubborn man) agreed that a trip to London might be a good idea. Within hours of the trip to London it was determined that Chris was in pretty rough shape and was not well ---- within 24 hours he was diagnosed with Wegener's Granulomatosis (VEG-eh-nerz gran-u-loe-muh-TOE-sis) ..... without treatment this disease can be fatal within months.

Wegener's is an uncommon disorder that causes inflammation of your blood vessels. This inflammation restricts blood flow to various Wegener's granulomatosis, which is also called granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), often affects your kidneys, lungs and upper respiratory tract. The restricted blood flow to these organs can damage them. Wegener's can affect other organs, but this isn't as common, and generally isn't as se...rious.

Wegener's granulomatosis also produces a type of inflammatory tissue known as a granuloma that's found around the blood vessels. Granulomas can destroy normal tissue. There is no known cause for Wegener's granulomatosis.

Early diagnosis and treatment of Wegener's granulomatosis may lead to a full recovery. Without treatment, Wegener's granulomatosis can be fatal, most commonly from kidney failure.
