Funeral and Burial Assistance

The weekend of July 14th, Heidi, her family, and I were planning to visit our mom in Gallup, NM,. My mom and I were going to meet Heidi's newest addition, King Chares Diné, for the very first time.

On June 21, 2018, our mother unexpextedly passed away in her home. We all drove out to see her as soon as we could. 

As we were trying to prepare for her funeral, we came to some hardships. Our mother did not set aside any money for this event. We asked the Navajo Nation for burial assistance, but we were denied our application because she wasn't considered low income even though only living off SSI benefits. My sister and I have to fund our mom's funeral expenses ourselves. 

We were still able to have my mom's funeral on Wednesday, June 28th. We laid our mom to rest on our family plot, next to her brother, Randin, in Sanders, AZ. 

With the denial of the application, we still had a remaining balance with the mortuary. We were lucky enough to receive a short term loan but need to pay that in full. Heidi and I also need to pack up our mom's apartment and move stuff back to our respective homes.

Many of our family and friends have asked how they they could help or what they can do. We decided a GoFundMe would be the easiest way.

We appreciate so much in what people have already donated, it truly means a lot to us. Also any memories, you would like to share, please do! Heidi and I are loving them.

For our family and friends in California, we are planning a memorial service for her in July. Once we set a date, we will let you know.
