Building Global Awareness

Going Glocal is a global citizenship and education program designed to get low-income people of color, globally aware and civically engaged. We do this by engaging students and adults in research into global issues and providing them with travel opportunities.
Over the past two years, at Oakland Emiliano Zapata Street Academy, we have traveled to Brazil and Guatemala with students.
This summer we are traveling to Guatemala and Mexico with staff, students and families to learn Spanish, collaborate with other educators and youth, and to practice peace.
By contributing, you will help our staff and students:
1. travel the farthest away from home ever.
2. develop skills to communicate with our Spanish-speaking family members.
3. develop global citizenship curriculum across disciplines.
4. implement community and "peace-serving" projects in Oakland and abroad.
