Glen's marathon fundraiser

I recently decided to run a marathon to try and raise money for a colleague who is actively battling cancer for the second time in her life. The first time she had the full English of chemotherapy and told me it didn't make her feel like a person and that despite the fact it worked, it was a horrific experience. Devastatingly the cancer returned and this time around she has decided to go all natural which means clean eating and medication. It's not the conventional route and therefore takes a lot of courage. Her positivity and general outlook was inspiring as I am someone who often allows myself to be affected when things don't go my way at work, I miss a night out with my pals or Fulham lose (which this season, is a lot)! It made me realise that life is short and you should use the time we have to do things you feel passionate about and that challenge you. Running is something I have started recently and have really enjoyed so felt it was a good way to push myself and also raise some money for a worthy cause. I ran a marathon 12 years ago but since then only started running again in December and did a couple of half marathons in March. I have signed up to the Thames Meander marathon on Saturday 10th August and am nervous but looking forward to it!

In regards to the important part which is what specifically am I raising money for. Dannielle (my colleague) is taking close to 100 tablets a day which as you can imagine aren't cheap. Coupled with the fact that she has regular sessions with her doctor, is buying powders and food that will help her organs. NONE OF THIS IS COVERED BY THE NHS. It is costing her roughly £1,400 every 6 weeks. She has a family to provide for and a normal life to live so it's difficult to keep that level of expenditure up hence me trying to do something to help that process. It's a shame that the NHS only provide funding for the standard cancer treatment and basically leave you on your own if you want to do it a different way.

Below is a link to her page which provides a more personal overview of her situation. I thought it would be good to have a separate funding page so that hopefully people that I know, that don't know Dannielle can get involved and put some money forward as well as all the people at FRG.

Thanks for reading, please stick your hand in your pockets and donate!

P.S. If I reach my intended goal of £1,000 I will do the run in some form of fancy dress, so if nothing else give some money to make me look like a tw*t!

Thanks!
