Glenda Girdler’s Rehabilitation

Donation protected

On Friday morning, November 9th,  2018, my Gpa Milford found my Gma Glenda unresponsive on the bedroom floor. She had been down for 10-12 hours. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance to Major Hospital in extremely bad conditions. While there, she continued to decline.  The family asked that she be moved to Community South Hospital in Indianapolis. They had saved her life almost 8 years ago when she had spinal meningitis.

While at Community South Hospital, she was placed in the ICU. She was diagnosed with some sort of infection that made her become sepsis. What that infection was, we may never know. They initially thought meningitis again or maybe even a stroke.  But every test has came back negative.  She had to be placed on four of the strongest antibiotics that they have. Just to cover everything out there.  Glenda also ended up with pneumonia and the bottom half of her lungs collapsed. She had to be placed on a ventilator twice. She also battled extremely high blood pressure and had an irregular heartbeat to the point that they were all convinced that she was having a heart attack. She had to get a heart cath, only to learn that it was from extremely low potassium and dehydration. She has been on a feeding tube and catheters.  They have ran every single test possible to find the culprit, but with no luck. It has all been a mystery. We have all felt like we were on a rollercoaster. It has been the longest week of our lives.

She is now doing better and is going to be able to go to PCU. As she continues to progress, she will have to have some sort of rehab.  It may have to be inpatient or outpatient. We are not sure which one yet, because we still don’t know the extent of the neurological or physical damage from everything that she has been through. We are praying that it will be very minimal.

As we all know, with all of this comes expenses. Glenda and Milford have ALWAYS been there for everybody. They have always welcomed everyone into their home and have given the shirts off of their backs and literally the food off of their table. Even to complete strangers. Now is the time to give back to them and allow them to focus on getting Glenda healthy again. Instead of worrying about how they will get the things that they will NEED. They never ask anyone for help. But I do know that they need that help now and I am asking for them. There are several things that they will need as Glenda heals and is able to come home.

We know that they will need a new bed. They currently sleep in separate rooms because they like different types of mattresses. (Soft mattresses hurt my Gpa’s shoulders and back). We are hoping to accommodate them so that my Gma is not left alone again. She will need a ramp built for her wheelchair and possibly some renovations to the house. She will need to be able to  maneuver her wheelchair easily.  We also know that there will be medical expenses that will come with this long stay at the hospital and rehabilitation. Glenda and Milford currently live off of a fixed income and will have difficulties coming up with any extra money for these expenses. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. No matter how big or small.

We also ask for continued prayers. We know that our God is mighty and He has shown us that miracles really do happen. Thank you all for your love and support! ❤️
