I’m Leslie Krongold and I have a rare disease – myotonic dystrophy.
Since my diagnosis 18 years ago, I’ve been facilitating support groups for adults with neuromuscular disease as well as training others to facilitate support groups. In March of 2016, I decided to expand my reach so I launched the podcast and blog, Glass Half Full . I’ve diligently produced a new podcast every two weeks. Each episode explores positive ways to cope with a chronic health condition.
The mission of Glass Half Full is to instill optimism. Podcast episodes generally fall into one of three categories featuring: (1) a person with a chronic health condition who lives life with a passion and purpose; (2) a person who practices a generally alternative healing modality; or (3) a theme relevant to living with a chronic health condition.
To launch this new venture I used my own money (approximately $4,912.) to set up operations, and my monthly expenses are roughly $125. For a better understanding of these costs, visit this webpage .
My goal is to raise $5,000 before the two year anniversary. I will use the money to expand the reach of the podcast and blog through a variety of promotions: social media, traditional publicity, as well as presence at patient community events. Through increased publicity I will gain more listeners and attract sponsorships that will make Glass Half Full financially self-sustaining.
I am a strong believer in support groups; they’ve helped me learn, maintain independence, and cope with the daily challenges of having a degenerative condition. Not everyone has access to an in-person support group and these podcasts serve as a virtual option. Many support group facilitators burn out or have difficulty finding new topics to discuss and these podcasts cover subject matter suitable for discussion in a support group for adults challenged with a chronic health condition.
