Bruno and I need your help!

As many of you know, I adopted Bruno from True Friends Animal Welfare Center in September. He had been at the shelter for over a year and desperately needed a home. When I rescued Bruno, I promised him I'd give him the best life possible to make up for all the time he had missed. While this mostly meant loving him and spoiling him to death, it also meant taking care of his numerous health issues.

It took months of medication and care to treat his skin infections, allergies, GI parasites, and other GI issues. In December he required emergency surgery for a gastric obstruction. He then needed another surgery in March to remove two mast cell tumors. It was shortly after this surgery that Bruno suffered from every dog owner's worst nightmare, GDV - more commonly known as bloat. Most dog's do not survive this condition. However, Bruno bloated not once, not twice, but FIVE different times over the course of 3 months. Each time he required immediate veterinary care to alleviate the gas in his stomach before it flipped, which would ultimately be fatal. After his last incident in July, both his doctors and I agreed it was necessary to have a procedure done called a gastropexy. During a gastropexy the stomach is surgically attached to the abdomen wall in order to prevent it from flipping.  Bruno underwent this surgery on August 17th. While under anesthesia, he also had two more mast cell tumors removed. The surgery was very successful and he is recovering exceptionally well, but he still requires a lot of treatment and care before he can be considered a healthy dog.

As you can imagine, at this point Bruno's medical care has become VERY costly. Between his surgeries and emergency care, I have already spent thousands of dollars and still owe more. In addition to these procedures, there is the ongoing expense of medications and food. He is on several medications daily to support his GI health while he heals from surgery and to prevent him from bloating in the future. He has also been eating Hill's I/D canned food for nearly a month and will need to continue until he is completely healed. Due to his size, he goes through nearly two cases in one week which ends up totaling over $300 monthly in food. He also requires daily medication to control his allergies, which are insufferable if left untreated. This medication is also costly.

Being a certified veterinary technician, I was well aware that taking on the responsibility of a rescue pup can be expensive, but I had no idea it would be THIS costly. Since I care for Bruno on my own and live on my own, his medical expenses have become unmanageable. I work full-time as a veterinary technician, and have even started a second job at True Friends for extra income. However, I am still having trouble covering his most recent surgery, which is why I created this page. Poor Bruno has been through so much. He came to the shelter wounded, abused, and neglected and then came to me worn out and withdrawn. It took quite a bit of time and reassurance for him to show me what a sweet, loving, loyal, little goofball he really is. He has come so far, both mentally and physically, and he truly deserves to finally just be happy, healthy, loved, and worry-free. So please, any support, shares, or donations are much needed and so greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Love Kristina & Bruno
