Gizmo's from Gizmo's Frens Medical Bills

Donation protected
Gizmo and his mom dedicate their lives to helping others. Sometimes even at a moment's notice, they will make themselves present to support anywhere they are called. From connecting with trauma victims and first responders as a K9 First Responders trauma response team and a Community Emergency Response Team comfort K9,  to visiting hospital patients, nursing home residents, and students in schools as a therapy dog team, Gizmo and his mom are a compassionate presence for those in need across New England and even across the United States when called to help. They never ask for a thing in return, including compensation. Gizmo's philosophy is there is no charge for love. Love is for free.

Last week on the way to play practice (Gizmo was going to be Toto) Gizmo's mom Jen noticed his gait was irregular. He was wobbling and falling over. She took him home and called his vet, who recommended an anti-inflammatory and a vet visit if there was no improvement. Gizmo soon deteriorated. He began raising and lowering his head repetitively and appeared to fade in and out of lucidity.

He was rushed to the emergency vet as by then it was after hours. He was placed in ICU overnight and taken to Pieper Veterinary neurology the next morning, where he was again placed in ICU and had an MRI and 2 spinal taps.

MRI found a condition called COMS, similar to Chiari in humans. Gizmo's brain was filling with spinal fluid, affecting his motor skills. He began IV meds and, after 2 days in the hospital, was released to home on Prednisone and Prilosec. He will take Prilosec for the rest of his life, as it reduces spinal fluid in dogs. Prognosis is good for a full recovery.

Gizmo's mom is a high school teacher who is currently overwhelmed with medical bills herself from a year long battle (including open chest surgery) with illness.

It's time for Gizmo and Jen to let others help them for a change. Please consider helping with Gizmo's medical costs. It is the least we all can do to support this little hero. Thank you in advance.
