It's Our Turn to Help Gary Kelso who gives all to feed the Children and Families of Central Oregon!

Hebrews  13:16
"And do not forget to do good and share with others, for which such sacrifices God is pleased".

Allow us to tell you a story about a very special man who makes a difference every day to those less fortunate in our community.  A man and a family who now need your help.  A man who in his own early life struggled with many demons but in one "divine inspired" moment turned his life around by the grace of The Lord and is a true inspiration how the grace of God can change your life in so many ways. As a Christian, Gary exemplifies the "Love of the Lord" and living a Christ-centered life and along with his wife Debi and family,  started the largest food relief organization in Central Oregon.  We will explain more about The Giving Plate  below.

Yes, It is Our Turn To Help someone who gives of himself every day and makes a difference to thousands of families in Central Oregon. Gary needs your help with skyrocketing non-insured extraordinary medical costs.  Why?

It began late Fall of 2017, Gary was experiencing severe abdominal discomfort and discovered that he had a severe double hernia that needed to be surgically corrected.  Pre-surgical infection developed  that had to be controlled and once surgery in Spring 2018 was able to be done, extreme complications set in with a systemic infection that caused the initial surgery to not heal creating dead diseased tissue and skin internally creating the need for a 2nd repair and removal of the diseased infection laden tissue.  A wound vac was placed to try to heal the wound from the inside out and currently Gary has wound vac care every other day. Besides the costs for the first and initial hernia and infection procedure(s), the complications created additional costs with another surgery, emergency care, additional tests, pathology, X-rays, specialists, surgeons and over a week of intensive hospitalization.

But, the story does not stop here............

To try to understand what kind of infection Gary had and whether or not it was in his bloodstream, a CAT SCAN (CT) was done that revealed Gary has a golf-ball sized tumor in his bladder, an abnormality in his kidney that needed to be investigated.  Last week, Gary was told and doctors confirmed cancer in his bladder with more surgery scheduled in July . It won't be known  until the surgeons are able to see the bladder and tumor if the bladder will need to be removed and it is  is not known right now if chemotheraphy, immunotherapy, radiation or other modalities will be needed until they are able to do the surgery to remove the cancerous tumor.

Gary is still being treated for the open incision/wound for the hernia issue and the extremely painful every-other-day wound care and scraping that goes on and with the grace of God and God answering all the prayers that Gary will be able to have the cancer surgery and that his abdomen will be healed.

Devastating Paralyzing Medical Costs are beyond imagination.  It is impossible to know what the ultimate out of pocket expenses will be as there will be an outpouring of medical costs and expenditures going on for quite some time.

All available savings have been depleted of over $12,000 with another $2,000 worth of medical bills received and this does not even include the hospital nor the surgeons billings for his 1st and 2nd hernia surgeries. It is estimated that the costs just for the 2nd surgery for the hernia/infection will run as much as $80,000.  This is not even anything having to do with Gary's  upcoming cancer surgery and subsequent care.  We are only guessing at this point of time in our fund-raising goal of $100,000 and feel this is a very conservative amount and with all of Gary's medical and cancer specialty care and surgery coming up, costs will likely exceed that amount.  Gary needs your help, this precious family needs your help.  Search your heart no donation is too small or too large and we know you will be blessed for your giving. We can all give back to Gary who has given of himself and a family who thinks of others first before themselves, we CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE! COME ON CENTRAL OREGON, WE CAN DO THIS!

There is no standard medical commercial insurance available. However, they were able to acquire the Christian based "Medishare-Samaritan Ministries Co-Share".  However, deductibles, whether or not they will consider any of the 2nd hernia/infection as "pre-existing" is yet to be known and having providers accept and bill for this faith-based coverage is at best interesting and the family is wading through a sea of "unknowns".   They do not qualify for any other hospital assistance program, medicaid or have any other resources.  The need is great and vast.

We have the distinct ability to give back and help a man, a husband, a father, a grandpa and  warrior of God who has for years given back to those less fortunate in our society, our town, and those that we and others pass up everyday and try not to think about.
Gary has had a ministry of serving since his early days leading the Shepherd's House with empathy and concern and as a beacon of light accepting the Lord as his personal savior leading by example so that others could and can see that they can live outside the darkness.  We can all be Gary's light now!  Please give this your heartfelt consideration and you will be blessed.

Luke 6:38
"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with measure you use, it will be measured to you".

MORE ABOUT "THE GIVING PLATE"
(Gary and Debi's Passion Project).  www.thegivingplate.org

The Giving Plate was founded in 2010 by Gary & Debi Kelso
Gary and Debi Kelso met while serving at Shepherd's House together in early 2007. Debi, who had lived in Bend for 25 years, recently retired from the school district. Gary, a former Wisconsin business owner, had completed a discipleship program at Salem's Union Gospel Mission before helping open Shepherd's House in 2005. "While serving together, our eyes were opened to the need our community had for food relief," says Debi. The two decided to do what they could to help.  After a great deal of thought and prayer, they used Debi's savings to fund The Giving Plate’s startup fees and expenses.  This was all around the time that Central Oregon experienced an unexpected economic downturn that left hundreds without jobs.  In those first months, they were often reminded of the story of the young boy who gave his five loaves of bread and two fish over to Jesus who in turn took it to feed over 5,000 individuals.  In many ways they felt like that boy by giving the little they had, and in amazement watching that expand in the hands of Jesus, to help and serve a need that was bigger than they ever realized or thought possible.  It was clear from the start that this outreach was all a part of God's timing and plan.  Gary & Debi have been committed to “rescuing” food and making it accessible to those in need ever since, and they purpose to provide that food to those in need with the same love and compassion Jesus had on the crowds that He fed with the 5 loaves and 2 fish.

The Giving Plate provides food to an average of 1,800 individuals monthly and has provided over 3 Million pounds of food since 2010 to our Central Oregon Community.

Please take this opportunity  to help Gary and his family.  Search your heart and soul, you will be blessed and we thank you for your consideration, may God Bless You!
