GIVE BACK TO BEAU RAY HAYWARD

Beau is a blessing of a son, the best big Brother any girls could ever ask for, a truly incredible boyfriend, and an undoubtedly amazing and supportive friend.

On August 19, 2018, Beau was having the fourth year of “The Boys Weekend” tradition at his friend’s cottage in Sudbury, Ontario.

Beau, the “BEAU-a-constrictor” as his friends jokingly call him rounded up a few buddies to do one more sauna and river run before they went inside and go to bed.

Beau and his buddy went running out of the sauna to jump into the lake like they had done dozens of times that day and in the previous three years. His other friend came running out of the sauna about 10 seconds behind them and noticed that Beau had not gotten out of the water yet but the other friend was and asked where Beau was.

At this time Beau had dove into the lake and jammed his head into the bottom, it compressed his neck so hard that he completely crushed his C5 vertebrae along with cracking the C4 and C6 vertebrae in his neck. The C5 disk fragments applied pressure to his spinal cord now causing a SCI, (Spinal Cord Injury). Time needed to be on Beau’s side.

Beau stayed conscious through the entire thing. He explained to us in recovery that he dove into the water, crushed his neck, and at that time he was not able to flip his body over and began to scream but realized he could not.  During this time in the water, Beau could see the bottom of the lake and could feel his toes touching the sand. From his scuba diving experience he knew to calm himself and to slow his heart rate by holding the breath he had remaining and releasing mini breaths out. As he was doing this he knew his friends would realize he needed help and they would find him. As he exhaled his last breath and had no choice but to take a large inhale. He then inhaled water and loss consciousness. At that moment his friend saw Beau’s back on the surface of the water and sprinted to grab him. Both of his friends struggled together to get him onto the dock. His friends estimated Beau was not breathing for approximately four minutes. His friend began to perform CPR, of which he had just taken a course less than one month prior. The other friends and owners of the cottage had called the ambulance and they were on their way.

As Beau coughed up the last amount of water in his lungs he came to and told his buddy he could not feel his legs. His buddy then started touching his legs which Beau confirmed could not feel. His buddy then grabbed his hand and Beau squeezed his hand.

The owner of the cottage lead the ambulance through the cottage roads to the main road to assist in getting Beau to the hospital as fast as possible.

Once he got to the hospital he could only shrug his shoulders and could not feel anything below that. They immediately did a Cat Scan and got him into surgery by 7:30am.

During the first 24 hours Beau has been able to lift both arms and fully extend them. Internal systems have begun to reboot and stabilize. In these early moments every small improvement is a major triumph. Beau’s character, attitude, and strength are keeping us highly optimistic.

We have had an astounding amount of positive support from every person who has ever met Beau and even people who have not. He is surrounded by supportive family and friends.

Beau has a long road of recovery and any funds raised are to be used for his physical therapy cost, new life accessories, medication costs, and to reduce financial pressures during his recovery. At this time we are unaware of the physical, mental, and financial hurdles this journey will present.

BEAU WOULD GIVE ANYTHING FOR ANYONE HE LOVED OR THE STRANGER HE JUST MET ON THE STREET TO MAKE THEM HAPPY.. HE IS SO MANY PEOPLES SUNSHINE.

LET US GIVE BACK TO BEAU RAY HAYWARD!!!!!

As Beau’s sister, Bianca. Speaking on behalf of our family we are so moved and overwhelmed by the outpouring of love.
When I started this campaign for my brother I had in mind that this money will relieve stress from him in the mean time and when he is able to be an outpatient this money will go towards adjusting to life with accessories such as handrails in the shower, wheelchairs, etc. Also covering the extra costs of medical bills and transportation.
Beau does not know the amount of this campaign as we are keeping it as a surprise for when he is in the right state of mind to receive such amazing and overwhelming news. I have made a savings account in Beau’s name attached to his other accounts which the money will deposit directly in there and stay untouched until needed.
Thank you once again for how amazing you have all been. Keep sending the positive vibes and prayers.
