Thank you for taking the time to read this. First, let me say I hate asking for help. Unfortunately I have to ask for help. I was diagnosed with MS about a two and a half years ago and with that comes many obstacles. I’m not asking for pity because this disease will not beat me down. Those that are close to me know I will not quit and want to beat this.
I am convinced that insurance companies want to keep you sick to benefit off of you. This is the second time the insurance company has not approved something that will improve the quality of life. I had to obtain a AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis). This locks your foot in a “L” position so the toe does not drag when walking. The thing they do not tell you is that because your locked in this position the brace will throw other joints out of whack. Your body has to compensate and will not move naturally. My hip was taking a beating because of this brace.
After doing research I found an electric stimulation brace which gives the nerves what it needs so I can remain mobile and walk somewhat normal. What is great about this is that it is not a fixed program it is a learning program that works with you and allows your body to function as it is intended to do. The device is called Bioness L300 GO.
With MS there are many symptoms but for me one of the worst ones is the left leg foot drop. When my body gets overworked or tired, the leg wants to lift but does not, so the toe drags causing me to trip. This has caused me to stop running and makes walking a challenge. I have and still put in the work to strengthen the muscles but the nervous system is a tricky thing. It does what it wants...
I sent the insurance company all of the information and tried to go through them. Unfortunately, they denied my request. There is an appeal process (which I know very well), instead of going down this road I decided to try a Go Fund Me.
I tested this brace out and it works perfect and allows my body to function normally (somewhat.. who is really normal..lol).
I hate putting my personal stuff out there, but this brace will allow my body to function as it is intended to.
Please give what you can, share often and I appreciate anything you can do.
