On July 16, 2019 Blake Backus suffered a very serious fall at work. Falling  some 20 feet and impacting a steel structure with the left side of his body then continued from that elevation falling another three feet onto more steel structures. He was brought by Ambulance to Three rivers hospital in Brewster. It was quickly discovered that his injuries could not be supported at such a small facility.  Blake was stabilized and transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.  Blake was then informed he had sustained five breaks in his pelvis and a bilateral fracture to each hip joint. Along with several other “aches and pains”.  To the relief of the family the pelvis had remained stable (due to an exuberant effort from fellow co-workers leading up to rescue personnel arriving on site and keeping Blake comfortable and calm so as not to move). Although this accident will be covered under workman’s compensation  the immediate expenses until the claim gets active and begins to reimburse are going to become a burden (comp claims don’t exactly flow quickly). Blake and Rachel have savings to help cover hotel costs for a limited amount of time.  Blake is currently still being closely watched and heavily medicated in sacred heart, once he regains use of his left leg and has the ability to move, dress, bath, & use the toilet on his own, he will then begin recovery.  Recovery will require 3 weeks of inpatient physical therapy at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Center in Spokane. After St. Luke’s Blake and Rachel are hoping to be healed enough to return home and finish the remaining PT as an outpatient in Omak.  This is of course assuming everything goes well.  Currently Blake is unable to move his left leg without assistance, Blake has stood up twice with his PT team, although the pain in nearly unbearable. Those of us reading this obviously know this man, and know he is worth the investment,  you would also know Blake and Rachel are always first to assist anyone with what ever they can. This is being set up by an anonymous family member that knows These amazing people would never openly ask for help until it were a last resort. Rachel could use the peace of mind that comes with some financial freedom, to focus on helping her husband get through this painful and trying time. Thank you for all that can assist, even the smallest amount.
