Over the last 20 years, over 12 million children have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the African continent. In Tanzania alone, more than 75% of children are unable to attend secondary school, primarily due to financial constraints and qualifying restrictions.
The Ark Foundation of Africa's (ARK) One Stop Center and Secondary School (OSC) in Boko, Tanzania is one of a small number of charitable schools in Tanzania that provide secondary school education and other support services nearly free of charge. OSC has a strong track record of helping vulnerable youth reach their highest potential through these comprehensive services. More than 75% of students currently enrolled at OSC have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. OSC has made it possible for these children to obtain an education and secure the skills and knowledge necessary for future employment to attain a higher quality of life for themselves, their siblings, and their caretakers.
OSC needs your help!
The One Stop Center is currently at risk of being shut down due to the disrepair of the students' toilets. The school has already exhausted its emergency funds for the year. Closing OSC will seriously impact the disadvantaged students who currently receive crucial educational services, food, and lodging. The school has 28 days to dig and build 10 new toilets and washrooms to accommodate 250 students.
Since 2000, small donations have enabled ARK and OSC to provide sustainable education and support services to more than 5000 orphans and children in East Africa. These donations have made it possible to cover the cost of books, educational materials, healthy meals, room and board, counseling, and community outreach programs. The Ark Foundation of Africa has been able to provide basic healthcare services to the children and families we support and created HIV awareness and education programs, as well as employment opportunities, in local communities.
The Ark Foundation of Africa is a child-focused organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life of Africa's most vulnerable children, women, and communities by partnering with them to teach strategies and skills to help themselves and others.
