Magalia (CA) dog mauling victim Sarah Davi

Donation protected
A pack of vicious dogs attacked Sarah Davi in front of her Magalia (California) home on March 14; the nine dogs mauled her, throwing her to the ground and biting and tearing at her arms, legs, torso, the back of her shoulders and neck. After more than six hours of surgery, Sarah faces months of recovery.

We are friends of Sarah and her husband, Tony—friends who understand what a financial and emotional burden this will be to this hard-working couple.

Your gift and support as one of the Friends of Sarah Davi will relieve the financial burden of the huge medical bills coming now and those which will be required for Sarah’s future recovery. All funds raised are going into the account, “Friends of Sarah Davi,” held at Bank of the West in Chico, California.

After being attacked for no reason by a pack of vicious dogs, Sarah deserves—and needs—this kind of relief to help her heal and move forward.

The attack:
Dogs in a pack act differently than they do alone. Neighbors in Sarah’s community have complained for years about the viciousness of this group of dogs when they would escape from the owner and wander loose as a pack in the neighborhood. The dogs’ owner was in Chico at a March 14 court hearing with Butte County Animal Control officers answering to some of these complaints at the time these dogs got out. Again.

Sarah saw the dogs were loose and stepped outside to warn the owners’ brother to get them back in. One of the dogs broke from the pack and approached Sarah, biting on to her wrist while the other eight dogs charged her, leaping upon her, biting and dragging her to the ground.

The nine dogs ripped into Sarah’s clothing and body, tearing at her neck, her arms, her legs and anything they could get between their jaws. Fortunately, Sarah fell to the ground on her face, avoiding more serious bites there.

A driver passing by noted a pack of dogs circling, barking excitedly and tearing at something in the roadside ditch—it was Sarah. She was ambulanced to Enloe Medical Center where she was in surgery for more than six hours.

Doctors stopped counting the dozens of stitches needed to pull Sarah’s body back together after this vicious attack; one medical professional commented, “We don’t count them when the work is as extensive as this has been and there are this many stitches. We just keep working.”

Sarah is receiving intensive post-surgical care and hopes to avoid future surgeries—but that is unknown at this time. She will certainly be scarred—both physically and mentally—by this savage attack.

Sarah…
That dogs should attack Sarah is a shock to anyone who knows her. Sarah and Tony cherish their own "critters," caring for them well and with love.

Sarah also cares for others’ animals. When the Camp Fire burned through our community, Sarah drove early in the morning to her employer’s Paradise office to rescue their cat, escaping through the flames with the yowling cat in his carrier—too late to return to her Magalia home to evacuate their own dogs.

The fire roared through Sarah’s neighborhood and, while their home was saved, the backyard fence burned, allowing the same pack of dogs which has now mauled Sarah, access to their small dog, Peanut; the pack killed Peanut, shaking the little dog to death.

After the fire, Sarah spent hours daily at shelters, searching for her dogs and those of friends. When evacuated dogs were abandoned by their owners (many whom had left the area) and languished at the shelters, Sarah and Tony took one of the now-homeless dogs into their family.

Sarah prefers the simple things in life: her work, gardening, caring for her animals, beading, textile crafts and reading. She is well-loved and a friend to everyone.

How you can help:
Sarah and Tony have a high-deductible health plan of $9,000, then must co-pay each bill until reaching their annual out-of-pocket medical expense limit. Next year, when Sarah’s care will very likely continue, they will have to first pay for the deductible and the annual limit again. Sarah has had no steady income since the November Camp Fire burned her place of employment.

Tony’s workplace is an hour away from their Magalia home; Sarah’s hospitalization and care will put even more pressure on his work day.

Your financial gift will help Sarah restore her health by allowing her to concentrate on healing from this violent attack rather than having to worry about mounting medical debts.

Your gift of any size will go a long way to help.

You can donate through GoFundMe or contact her friends at [email redacted] to find out how to donate to an account set up at a local bank.

And, of course, your support and prayers are also appreciated.
