Girls in Science and Tech. Club

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Meaghan Clark, and I am a member of California State University, Northridge’s Women in Science organization. Last year, we founded Girls in Science and Technology (GIST), an afterschool program for 8th graders at Portola Middle School. You can see what we accomplished last year here: gistclub.weebly.com.

The goal of GIST is to expose 8th grade girls to the many potential careers within science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, and motivate them to pursue further education in these areas. We approach this goal through hands-on activities, and by encouraging an open learning environment for students to explore and experience science and technology. We also connect our students with women in science careers so they can find knowledgeable mentors and gain a better understanding of specific STEM careers. This club is focused on inspiring young women, however it is open to all gender identities.

The 2017-18 school year will be the second year of GIST, and we are excited to build on last year’s success to make the club better than ever. We currently need funding for owl pellets for use in our predator-prey interaction activity, DNA to run on agarose gels, and classroom supplies. All donations will go to a University controlled bank account, only to be used for GIST supplies. Any funds raised over our goal will go towards future years of GIST. Donations of any amount are so appreciated!

Best regards,
