Girls on Ice Canada Launch Campaign

$2,855 of $20,000 goal

Launching in August 2018: A free science immersion program for Canadian girls

Girls on Ice Canada provides a tuition-free transformative leadership opportunity to a diverse team of teenage girls from underserved communities (urban, rural, First Nations) across Canada centred around a 12-day glacier mountaineering and science expedition deep in Glacier National Park, British Columbia.

How your donation helps

It costs $6000 for us to provide this experience to each girl tuition free. That includes the cost of hiring professional scientists, and ACMG certified guides, lodging costs during the program, travel support, and providing climbing, camping and science equipment. The program can only run with a full team, we need your donations to get there!

Through the Girls on Ice Society, a non-profit based in Revelstoke, BC, we are pursuing granting options which will cover a significant portion of our budget. Your donation will help us reach our ultimate goal of offering Canadian girls a transformative experience in August of 2018!

Our expedition has the following goals:

1. Increase young women’s self-efficacy and interest in pursuing science as a career;

2. Create lifelong advocates for the scientific process and its role in public policy;

3. Teach critical thinking skills, which will be important for participant’s future pursuits;

4. Expose and develop outdoor field skills in a remote and inspiring environment; and,

5. Enhance leadership self-confidence for participating young women so that they have a higher likelihood of becoming community leaders in the future.
