Gilroy Gun Shooting Survivor - "The Honey Ladies"

Donation protected
I have known Wendy Towner for over three years.

In May 2016 she installed my first hive and has been a mentor and friend over my beekeeping journey.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday Wendy and her husband Francisco were shot at the Gilroy Garlic Festival... selling Habanero and Garlic infused Honey for her business, The Honey Ladies.

I have setup this campaign to help her and her family.

A man was climbing over the fence in the last hour of a three day HOT Garlic festival. My bee mentor, Wendy Towner, her husband (Francisco), and son were sitting down to catch their breath after a long weekend. She was at the festival selling Habanero and Garlic infused Honey for her business, The Honey Ladies.

Wendy told the gunman, "No, you can't do that!" As she saw him climb the fence with a gun. With that comment, all his attention went toward her booth. He opened fire on them, hitting both her and her husband. Their three-year-old son was dragged under the table by a brave 10year old girl, that probably saved his life. He wanted to run to Mommy and Daddy.

The shooter then approached closer, and said: "are you alright?". They both stayed still and did not respond, as he probably would have finished the job.

He then turned and continued to the next group of people. A 6-year-old boy was nearby and next. Wendy was particularly heartbroken about his loss.

The officers heard the shots, and found active shooter #1 within a minute, and shot him. #2 is still being hunted for by the police.

Wendy was shot one time in the lower leg. Francisco (her husband), was shot three times. Shoulder, femoral artery, and lower leg.

Thanks to all officers, medical staff and people that helped stop bleeding on Wendy, and clamped Francisco's femoral artery before helping to move them. During this hateful event, we need to emphasize the love that came from so many people.

Wendy Towner is out of surgery, will have long term nerve and muscle damage to her leg. Francisco (her husband) had more severe damage to his femoral artery.

It will be a long road ahead in PT, skin grafts, and plastic surgery for both. 7-10+ days in the hospital. Their son is fine and with family.

Funds will help with getting the family through the short term need (groceries, transportation, etc.) and medical bills down the line.
