Gendered Intelligence go camping!
We combat that as we have in years previous with a trans youth summer camping residential. The programme includes everything from kayaking to raft building as well as informal games and social interacting that help trans youth gain important personal and outdoor skills. Most residentials are gender segragated, which makes life difficult for trans youth. Our residential provides a safe space for all gender identities expressed by our young people.
We've had over 20 youth sign up and 10 on our waiting list and not every trans youth can afford to attend.
We want to ensure that everyone of our young members who wishes to go on the camping trip gets to go.
“I really enjoyed being part of this physical project. I most enjoyed the swimming session. I can’t swim but the instructor gave me a lot of attention and said that I had potential, which was really encouraging.” Young trans man
“I only feel safe doing physical activities with other young trans people, or trans people, I wouldn’t feel comfortable at the moment doing any sport with other young people.” Young female-to-male trans person, aged 21.
Please donate to our campaign to help us make this a reality for trans youth.
It costs:
£52 each person to camp
£20 each to take part in activities
£60 each to cover staff costs
£32 each to cover volunteers' expenses
£32 each for food
£28 each for getting there
Time has come - it's our last day to donate! We have not quite reached our target and are keen to make it as close to the £5000 as we can. So who got paid today? You did? Well why not pop us a few quid over before you spend it on fun weekend times. You yes YOU can make a difference.
Okay everyone! We have nearly reached the £3000 mark but time is against us. We only have a few days to go. If you have been meaning to donate (you know who you are) but have yet to get round to it please please DONATE. Otherwise it will be too late. We are working really hard behind the scenes to make sure that everyone will have a super, amazing, life changing opportunity but also that they will feel safe. One example of ensuring our young people's safety is that we have decided to pay for an additional member of staff to be up all night. He will arrive at the camping site in the late evening and return to his own bed in the morning. This just allows us to deal with anyone that might need attending to in the night and also so that the workers can relax! Obviously there is a cost to this. But it's important. So please please donate what you can.
Hurrah we have made it to £1000 thanks to an amazing contribution of £330! We can't thank you enough. I have just come out of an amazing parents and young people's session, who came together to share experiences and not feel like they're the only family struggling on their own. I realised something today that this camping trip will benefit more than the young people who attend, but also the people who love them.
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. We have had an amazing interest in getting the message out there. Please do cascade to your friends and anyone who you think can support our camping trip with a few of their hard earned pounds.
