Gibson's Heart Treatment

Donation protected
Hi Everyone! This is Gibson, the newest member to our little pack. After a co-worker was no longer able to home him, we felt it was our responsibility to give this guy the life he has always deserved. Gibson has been thrown from home to home, with nowhere to settle down and call his own. At 6 months old, he has already been rehomed 3 times. When we opened our doors, we made a promise to him, and ourselves, that we will do everything it takes to make sure this pup is as happy as can be. Gibson is loving his new home, all of his toys, and especially our other dog, Bambi! He is energetic, playful, and extremely loving.

Unfortunately, after having him in the house for a few days, we began having some concerns with his health. We started in his mouth. Gibson has cracked one of his adult molars, and it has become infected. At this point we are unsure if it is because of the infection, or a defect from birth, but he also has a heart murmur. Our veterinarians diagnosis is "Patent Ductus Arteriosus", meaning one of the valves in his heart that should have closed within a week of birth, has not. This causes the oxygenated blood to mix with the unoxygenated blood inside of the heart in a sort of washing machine effect. Currently his immune system is at risk, as well as an elevated respiratory and heart rate. With the elevated heart rate, his risk of full blown heart failure goes up every day. Having to act quickly, we have several steps we need to take before we can begin treatment.

To get Gibson back to a better level of health, he will need the following:

- A consultation with a cardiologist, including a vitals examination, echocardiogram and an electrocardiogram.

- He will then need treatment, including heart surgery and medication.

- Once his heart has been given the O.K. we will then have to address the infection in his mouth, resulting in another surgery

Gibson has so much love to give, and so much of the world to see. We are doing everything we can to keep our promise to this little pup, but unfortunately that just isn't enough right now. If we don't keep up on his treatment, Gibson might not make it to his first birthday. If there is any way you can help us on this journey to recovery, our gratitude will be more than words can describe. Everything helps, no matter the size of the donation. We want to thank each and everyone of you for giving the time to read Gibson’s story. Times can be tough, and even if a donation is out of the question, please share this story with your friends and family, and help us spread the word for Gibson’s recovery!

Thank you,

Gibson, Bambi, Kirstie, and Logan
