Getting a family together

My father was recently detained by ICE in Queens, NY. He simply stopped an irresponsible driver from running over our dog but the driver got the NYPD involved, which led to arrest. Despite New York City supposedly being a sanctuary city, information was shared and my father was handed over to ICE. He was born in Cuenca, Ecuador, but he continues to love the US as his home.
I’m 20 years old and find myself in the same position as my father when he arrived in this country almost 25 years ago. He was the breadwinner, and he worked so many hours as a cab driver. Now I am the only source of income for my family, which includes my sister and mother. My dad's dream is to see me graduate from college, and your generous donations will help my family survive.
I hope we can get enough support so I can finish my last 2 years at CUNY Baruch College, where I major in Finance & Investments. Right after graduation, I plan on securing that big career opportunity so that my family can sustain itself. I am active in my school, my community, and my career industry as a Summer Financial Analyst for MetLife, a Fellow of America Needs You(ANY), Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO), Financial Women’s Association(FWA), Forté Foundation, and a member of Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPFA).
My mom, sister and I are devastated and grieving his absence. I feel a huge emptiness in my heart. My dad is being ripped away from our family. I'm struggling economically and emotionally, but now I have to feed my family and bring food to the table. My dad is gone and my sister and I must take over his responsibilities. My dad is returning to Ecuador empty-handed and he is starting from zero. I feel like that right now too.
But I know that we are not alone and that your generosity can help us tremendously. If I can just make it through my last 2 years of college, I think I’ve proven that I can get a life-changing job that will get my family through.
This picture is of my family and I when I graduated from HS, but now he will be absent from my college graduation. It's a dream that we both shared and that I will continue fighting for. I will become the second in my family to graduate from college and I will dedicate my degree to him.
I know this is not a “Goodbye, Dad, but it's not a “See you tomorrow” either. It's an, “Until next time.”

Mi padre fue detenido recientemente por ICE en Queens, Nueva York. Simplemente detuvo a un conductor irresponsable para que no atropellara a nuestro perro, pero el conductor involucró al NYPD, lo que provocó su arresto. A pesar de que la ciudad de Nueva York supuestamente era una ciudad santuario, se compartió información y mi padre fue entregado a ICE. Nació en Cuenca, Ecuador, pero continúa amando a los EE. UU. Como su hogar.
Tengo 20 años y me encuentro en la misma posición que mi padre cuando llegó a este país hace casi 25 años. Él era el sostén de la familia y trabajó muchas horas como taxista. Ahora soy la única fuente de ingresos para mi familia, que incluye a mi hermana y mi madre. El sueño de mi papá es que me gradúe de la universidad, y sus generosas donaciones ayudarán a mi familia a sobrevivir.
Espero que podamos obtener suficiente apoyo para poder terminar mis últimos 2 años en CUNY Baruch College, donde me especialicé en Finanzas e Inversiones. Justo después de la graduación, planeo asegurar esa gran oportunidad profesional para que mi familia pueda sostenerse a sí misma. Soy activo en mi escuela, mi comunidad y mi industria profesional como Summer Financial Analyst para MetLife, Compañero de América Needs You (ANY), Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO), Financial Women's Asociación (FWA), Fundación Forté, y miembro de la Asociación de Profesionales Latinos para América (ALPFA).
Mi madre, mi hermana y yo estamos devastados y afligidos por su ausencia. Siento un gran vacío en mi corazón. Mi papá está siendo arrancado de nuestra familia. Estoy luchando económica y emocionalmente, pero ahora tengo que alimentar a mi familia y traer comida a la mesa. Mi padre se fue y mi hermana y yo debemos asumir sus responsabilidades. Mi papá regresa a Ecuador con las manos vacías y está comenzando desde cero. Me siento así en este momento también.
Pero sé que no estamos solos y que su generosidad puede ayudarnos enormemente. Si logro sobrevivir a mis dos últimos años en la universidad, creo que he demostrado que puedo obtener un trabajo que cambiará mi vida y que hará que mi familia avance.
Esta foto es de mi familia y de mí cuando me gradué de HS, pero ahora estará ausente de mi graduación universitaria. Es un sueño que ambos compartimos y por el que continuaré luchando. Seré el segundo en mi familia en graduarme de la universidad y le dedicaré mi título.
Sé que esto no es un "Adiós, papá, pero tampoco es un" Hasta mañana ". Es un "Hasta la próxima vez".
