My name is Rob, and I fight a daily battle with MS.
I was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2013, which fortunately I won the battle against. Immediately after, I was diagnosed with primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis. I haven't been able to walk since October 2014. I go swimming twice a week to do my physiotherapy and I love the freedom of the water as it allows me to semi walk. This is amazing for me as it helps me both mentally and physically.
My dream is to walk again, and although the signals won't get through and my body won't seem to let me, I'm too strong minded to give up hope.
I have tried a stand up wheelchair which is almost too good to be true as it allows me not only to stand and look people in the eye and have a face to face conversation, but also to get out and about, go to watch the football, or even order a drink at the bar at my local pub, instead of relying on friends or sometimes strangers to help. These are the things I used to take for granted. There are so many other possibilities where having this chair could make a significant difference in my life, some of which come down to everyday functions.
This standing wheelchair might be a stepping stone to one day walking again, even though some professionals have told me that I won't, I don’t want to lose hope as it is one of the few things I have left.
Being able to stand upright helps with weight bearing, bone strengthening, muscle spasms, nerve pain, breathing and so much more, it makes me feel confident and alive.
Unfortunately, my parents have both passed away,
and I no longer work (not through choice) so living on my income makes it impossible to buy one for myself.
I'm so convinced that this will change my life, which is why I'm trying to raise the money needed. I hope to get some donations from crowd funding, events at my local church and match funding options and I would be grateful for any help you may be able to give.
Please help me to stand on my own two feet again.
