Get Maddie to her Military Family in Alaska

Donation protected
We recently PCS'd to Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks Alaska from Louisiana. We had to leave our large dog behind while we flew here because it was too cold for her to fly in the cargo hold. We flew with our 5 other pets as carry on (at our own expense because the military does not pay for or help towards the cost of pets traveling to a new duty station).

Our friends in Louisiana took Maddie in and have cared for her the last 3 months. We bought her ticket, the largest kennel the airline allowed, and had her health certificate done. When our friend arrived at the airport they said she was too large. So our only option left is to have her transported here from a transport company. I can't even drive her myself because car rentals don't allow dogs in the car.

I'm not one to ask for help but we are desperate. With the recent expense from moving in February there is no way we can do this on our own. We need to get her here . Not only because I miss her but because we can't afford to board her and our friends have already done so much for us and they have 2 of their own large dogs.

***Since this post has been shared by so many friends there are lots of people who don't actually know us.***

I am a Vet Tech who has worked in animal rescue and Spay/Neuter my entire life. In fact my Mom helped her best friend start up an animal rescue & spay/neuter bus when I was 12, and I spent every summer and school holiday there. I worked off and on in Vet offices as well as volunteering for animal rescues. The last 5 years I was lucky enough to work for an amazing Nonprofit Spay & Neuter clinic in Shreveport. In fact 4 of my 6 pets were Spayed/Neutered there.

I know people say if you can't afford an animal you shouldn't have one. But in a normal situation we can afford all our pets. We have been extremely blessed that the Air Force gives my husband a well paying, stable job. Over the last few years we have adopted more animals as we were in the financial position to do so. We currently have 3 cats and 2 small dogs as well as our Maddie, all rescues! Maddie was adopted in 2016 as a 50lb lab mix but she quickly grew into her 110 pounds. All our animals are all extremely well cared for and receive routine vet care, bloodwork, and flea/heartworm prevention. We had a plan worked out and paid for to get all of them here to Alaska. Unfortunately things changed and we are now left scrambling to get her here as quickly as we can. Yes financially we are okay, but this is a large unexpected expense.

I can not believe the amount we have already received from friends and strangers. We are a single income home and still catching up from our move. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us. It means the world that you are willing to help!
