Lulu – don't leave her in the dark

Lulu

On Sunday April 22, the lights went out in one of Lulu’s rooms, and no matter what she tried, the lights wouldn’t go back on.

For most of us, we simply run to the fuse-box, replace the spent fuse and, presto, the lights are back on. For Lulu it’s more than that, in fact quite a bit more than she can even afford, to bring the lights in that particular room back on.

The Virtual World Community
In Lulu’s case, a very old computer had died, finally. It was beyond repair. The computer lighted up a very important part of her life. It was her connection to a world, to music and a global community of which she has been an active part for 12 years. This interaction literally lit up her life. This world is virtual, it’s computer based, and it’s inhabited by people from every country, every part of the physical world, as avatars which both create and share all sorts of creative things in high-quality graphics in real time*. This includes live-streaming music from performers who play in virtual live-music venues to fans and audiences of avatars.

Lulu’s Work
Lulu actually works there, in many of these virtual clubs in Second Life (SL). She has worked as manager and hostess of my own STARS Dance Club in SL for 2 years and over time for more than a dozen other clubs. This work earns her money in SL’s micro-economy, and with her volume of hours it helps her financially make ends meet.

We are reaching out to you to help Lulu buy a new computer. The proper equipment is estimated at $1500. As a friend of Lulu’s, I’m contributing $100. If we could get a few more people to donate something — any amount will help — Lulu would be up and running again in no time. Please note: all funding sources have been set so that Lulu will receive 100% of the donations received.
