FIRSTLY, Thank you for taking the time to even click on my page.
My names Kayleigh, I coach and dance for NWA in stornoway, Isle of Lewis. We are THE ONLY competitive cheer and dance programs in outer Hebrides (that in itself is a huge achievement). We started way back in 2008, myself, and my biggest supporter and best friend Kirstie Anderson. Back then, it was really all a dream, you know, a bit of fun. Now TEN YEARS LATER my dreams are becoming a HUGE, SCARY AND EXCITING REALITY!!!
Every year there is a HUGE competition in Orlando, Florida called Worlds. Trust me when I say this is every competitive dancers dream. All the countries in the world come together and battle it out for that first place. EVERY COUNTRY! I watch it every year at home on my tablet, just wishing and wanting to be there. I follow all the girls who get on Team Scotland each year, just to follow their journey. I guess in some way, I want to feel like I’m there.
ANYWAY, don’t want to rattle on and bore you lovely folk but I sumbitted a little video of me dancing to try out for team Scotland this year. Nothing was choreographed, I simply picked up my well trusty tablet and popped off the studio, and just made movement happen. Sent the video off, and away to work I went. I work in the royal hotel as assistant manager which I LOVE.
At work, my phone beeps, lucky I’m on a break! I see the words CONGRATULATIONS, I feel sick, my body goes numb and I put my phone in my pocket. “Is that really for Me? , surely they have made a mistake? , Kayleigh from stornoway?” It wasn’t a mistake at all, I GOT IN!!!!!! KAYLEIGH FROM STORNOWAY HAS MADE TEAM SCOTLAND!!!!!!! Ahhhh!
Then the reality hit, and put a downer on everything, I live on an island, training is every second Sunday, how can I make this possible? I will NOT let living on an island stop me from this journey. I want to show all the kids I teach every week that ANYTHING is possible once you put your mind to it. When I tell them that their coach has made team Scotland I know their little faces are going to tear up with joy. I’m not doing this for me, I’m doing it for them. I’m doing it for their parents. I’m doing it for our island. I’m doing it for our community!
With your help, I can make this happen.
as you can imagine worlds is already expensive but living on this island is making it even more expensive. I need help with travel for training before anything at this moment in time. Please help, no donation is too small, I will be forever grateful.
