I have started this GoFundMe page for my Dad, Jerry Hardister, who is hoping to be a part of a Mission Trip to Rwanda (June13-July 3, 2018). He traveled there in 2017 with a group from his church, Neely’s Creek ARP Church, Rock Hill, SC, to support the work of the organization called RCRI (Reach the Children of Rwanda International). Following is a brief excerpt from their website (http://rcrirwanda.org).
RCRI believes that a solid education and a Christ-centered spiritual foundation are the keys to breaking the cycle of poverty and training children to be self-sufficient contributors to Rwandan society. This is accomplished by providing the means for education as well as addressing the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of each child and their family outside of the classroom. RCRI employs a holistic model–assessing and ministering to the needs of the whole of a child’s life and not just one aspect.
During the trip, my dad wishes to connect with the two children from Rwanda that he and my mother sponsor and to work with the team from Neely’s Creek Church. The team provides a Bible School session, activities, recreation, special snacks and treats for the children and training, encouragement for the adult teachers and leaders at the RCRI sponsored schools there. This year, the team is anticipating being involved in construction of classrooms and other necessary projects.
While the mission trip is very rewarding and such a blessing to each team member, it does require a great deal of stamina and strength, physically and emotionally, and most importantly, the ability to share the love and compassion of Jesus to the many children and villagers that they encounter.
The team members hold various fund raising events throughout the year to raise the money necessary to fund the trip, both for personal expenses (flight, lodging, travel, meals, etc), and also to purchase supplies to take for activities with the children. Any money raised above the required expenses is used to buy food and personal hygiene items for families associated with the RCRI program. Obviously, with the number of team members going (12-15), it is impossible to raise enough funds for everyone.
My dad would appreciate any gift that you feel led to contribute toward his goal of $3500. If for some reason, my dad is unable to go on this trip, any monies raised will be passed along to the group fund at his church, to be used by other team members, and/or, to purchase shoes for the children, or, for any expenses necessary to make this trip happen.
