Get Gabe Lyons to the 2019 World Roller Games

Donation protected
A little more than five years ago Gabriel Lyons attended his dentists skate party and saw something that forever changed his life. As the party ended, the local speedskating team came in, put on their skates, and raced around the floor faster than Gabriel had ever seen a skater go. Before Gabe’s mom could pull them from the rink he already decided this was the sport for him.

After just two months of practice Gabriel entered his first competition. He finished last in every race. Gabriel’s first two years of competing was hard as progress was slow and his placement in races was not getting better, but this didn’t deter him. He continued to attend every practice, learning everything he possibly could from the best skaters and coaches available. Gabe was determined to succeed.

During Gabriel’s third year of competing everyone started noticing Gabe’s performances, and many people were surprised. No longer was Gabe finishing last or just out of placement, now Gabe was winning almost every race. Gabriel went on to win his first Divisional National Championship Title this year and he repeated his National Championship performance the following year as well.

Gabe has spent countless hours training over the past five years to develop his skill, and has now reached the point where he can prove himself internationally. At the US Outdoor National Championships which concluded May 13, 2019, Gabriel earned a place on the USA Junior World Team as overall track champion.

As a member of the 2019 Junior World Team, Gabriel Lyons will be competing at the World Championships held at the World Roller Games in Barcelona Spain  this July. The World Roller Games is an event that only happens once every two years. Approximately 4000 athletes will be competing in 11 disciplines during the Games. Gabriel will be one of those athletes competing in the sport of inline speed skating .

With only one and a half months between the time of athlete selection and their departure for the World Championships there has been little time to save up for all the expenses required. Inline speed skating is a completely self-funded sport in the USA. While Team USA has done an amazing job arranging for accommodations, breakfast and transportation between the hotel and competition venue during the athletes stay, the cost of $2650, is still the athlete’s responsibility. Additionally, Gabriel will be responsible for his airfare between Seattle and Barcelona, meals (lunch and dinner), as well as equipment and apparel expenses. Round trip airfare to Barcelona will cost approximately $1600. Meals (lunch, dinner, and snacks) during his 18 days in Barcelona will cost approximately $700. Consumable equipment during training and competition (wheels) will cost $1080. Competition and training uniforms will cost $300. Our goal is to reach $6330 to cover the expenses associated with Gabriel Lyons representing the United States at the 2019 World Championships in Barcelona Spain.

Gabriel has been dedicated to consistent training and hard work over the last five years to achieve this level of success. Any assistance, no matter the amount, would be greatly appreciated to help Gabriel continue his success and begin his international career as a top world level inline speed skater.
