Get Fenners Back Fit

If you're reading this note, the chances are you know Ryan 'Fenners' Fenwick. And if you know Ryan you'll know what an all-round top guy he is as a friend, a pro and an inspirational coach.

What you might not know is the torrid time he's had recently. The loss of his brother, then his father came after a botched hip operation that needed repeat surgery. General wear and tear and postural change (a bi-product of the two procedures) has given Ryan a herniated disc that puts constant pressure on a nerve in his back resulting in debilitating pain.

You can watch a video explaining his condition here: https://spinecare.luminhealth.com/conditions/ruptured-disc/#vm_A_6eec4f81

He struggles to walk, sit, stand, laydown and sleep. At the same time, he's trying to coach, support his young family and help his mum following the loss of her son and husband.

The only remedy is surgery. You can watch the procedure here: https://www.spine-health.com/video/total-disc-replacement-back-surgery-video#vm_A_1254210a

He was due to have the operation on the 11th August. Last night he was told the operation was cancelled and will be rescheduled for mid-September. There is, of course, a possibility this could be pushed back again.

My son had a lesson with Ryan this morning. To get to the club, Ryan had to crawl out of his bed and down the stairs, get on to crotches and get himself to the car. The pain and the situation he finds himself in brought him to tears. He put on a brave face and tried to make a laugh and a joke about it but underneath, I could tell he was in terrible pain.

So that, combined with all the other things that have happened in his life recently and what a genuinely nice guy Ryan is, leads me to this point. We can ignore his plight and carry on playing golf or we can help one of our own who needs urgent help to end his pain.

I'm for the latter and I'd like to ask you to join me in helping raise £25k to cover the cost of surgery and helping him through the 2 month rehabilitation period.

I'd like to introduce a bit of fun too..... I propose that for everyone kind enough to donate over £100, their name will go into a draw to win a 4 ball around St. George's.   You never know, if we achieve what we set out to, Ryan might be joining you too!

Thanks for your support.

Dave

PS:  Ryan knows nothing of this campaign and it would be good if we can keep it that way until we're at the point we can help
