The Gist
Hey people, I’m raising funds to pay off the rest of my tuition for a memoir writing workshop for people of color as well as for food and transpo while I’m there this summer! I’m so honored to have been accepted into the weeklong VONA/Voices workshop, a space exclusively for writers of color, in Berkeley, California this June. However, since I need extra time to rest and recuperate because travel is super hard on my body and also since I got real cheap tickets for these dates, I’ll be in town for almost a month. I’m in need of $400 to pay off the remainder of my tuition and $400 for food, transpo, and any other necessary expenses for those three weeks, and need to raise it by June 1st. I’d be mad appreciative for donations of any amount or if you could just share this on your socials. Thank you!!
About Me
I’m a gender/queer nonfiction writer who focuses on race, place, and power in the travel space. I’m all about decolonizing travel culture and you might’ve seen my essays about it floating around the socialscape, but I’ve also been working on a book of creative nonfiction about traveling and living in Ecuador as a diasporic returnee for a bunch of years and would love to finish it this century, and VONA would help with that. I’m also working on a seperate book proposal at the same time, and none of this pays, so my ass is broke. I’m a freelancer unable to seek additional employment due to my disabilities, I don’t receive assistance from the government, and I don’t have a stable living situation. I also love Beyoncé and have the cutest cat on earth. Your support would mean the world to me.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing this with a personal note somewhere on the internet would help a lot! I’m also looking for accessible housing in Berkeley for June 16 - June 24 for the week of the workshop, and anywhere in the Bay Area from June 11-16 and June 24 - July 2nd, so if you live there and have space or know folks that might be down, please let me know! I can’t afford hotels or AirBnb. Finally, if you’re in the Bay Area but can’t host me, I’ll be needing affordable healers (acupuncture, massage, limpiezas, anything at all that relieves pain) so if you know of any services I can use hmu, or invite me out for food or booze!
