My name is Isaac Jansson, I'm from Virgina Beach, VA.
Here is my story.
My wife and I decided to have an unconventional honeymoon with 11 of our friends in Puerto Rico. What we didn't know is exactly how unconventional it would be. Within 48 hours hurricane Maria had transformed into a category 5 hurricane which would then decimate the island of Puerto Rico. By the time we knew we had to leave it was too late, all airlines were booked.
We were originally flying in on the 17th and leaving the 25th, but due to airlines cancelling flights and having no access to reliable communication, we all ended up staying over a week longer than we had expected.
The past two weeks have been 100+ degree heat index with 100% humitidy and 0mph winds. It was essentially a sauna day in and out, we didn't even get a break during the night time hours and had limited access to water. The mosquitos were relentless and the flies and bees moved in shortly after.
We have been featured on Good Morning America and our local new station WAVY TV 10.
What this GoFundMe is about is trying to help us get back on our feet as we all now realize that even after the storm and coming home it still impacts us each day. My wife broke her foot a couple days before leaving and had to go to the ER to get looked at.
I'll be distributing any funds raised from this directly to the members of our group to cover lost wages and medical expenses. All addititional funds will go to faith based organizations and the salvation army for relief efforts.
Many of us have lost wages from work and cash from staying there longer than we had expected, and booking any airline possible to get off the island.
I know our plight pales in comparison to the people affected by this storm, but if you can find it in your heart to help 13 strangers pay their bills after this catastrophe we would greatly appreciate it. All remaining proceeds will go towards relief efforts in puerto rico.
