Georgia on my mind

Donation protected

On Thursday, December 13th, me and a friend were driving to Alabama to pick up a puppy for him to bring home for Christmas. On the way back to our college in Tennessee the puppy started whimpering so we decided to get off the next exit to let him out to walk around a bit.
After a series of random turns off the exit I was in the midst of a a three point turn on a random gravel street and, as I slowed to turn, we saw a dog curled up in the grass between the two roads.  Something seemed off so I decided to check on her. Malnourished, shivering, and limping, she was in really bad shape. She couldn’t put any weight on her back right leg, had scratches all over her body and blood on her head. Even so, she started wagging her tail right when I walked up to her, curling up to my body for heat as I started petting her.
I talked to some locals to see if they recognized her but they all said they’ve never seen her before. One man told us that the area in which we found her was a popular spot for people to abandon dogs. She was either abused and abandoned or abandoned, hit by a car, and left. I gave her some food and decided that I was gonna take her in and take care of her. The plot of grass she was on had a sign commemorating an old road called the Federal-Georgia road, so I named her Georgia. I brought her to a vet near our college to have her checked out. She stayed there overnight and I picked her up the next day. She was dewormed, tested for different diseases, given xrays, and bathed. I was handed 4 medicines to give her day and night and the xrays found that her right femur was broken. The break was basically at the top of the leg where it joins the body and is too high up for a cast.
I footed the vet bills and have had her staying at my dorm during my last few finals. The vets think she’s about 1 to 2 years old and a boxer-lab mix. Georgia is honestly one of the sweetest most beautiful dogs I have ever met. She’s just so precious and always has her tail wagging, happy to see anyone. She loves being around people and is such a good girl. I’m driving her back to my home in New York to stay after I take my last final, however, the broken femur requires surgery. This involves putting in a steel plate to stabilize the bone and allow it to heal. The surgery is very expensive and even if you only have a few dollars to help out, it would mean an unbelievable amount to me and Georgia. The leg risks amputation if not fixed soon, and if I can’t pay for the surgery I would be forced to leave her at a shelter. I’ve been with her for only a few days but she’s captured my heart and the heart of those who’ve met her. Any amount would be amazing and all money will go solely to Georgia. Every one of you has the chance to save a life. Please help me give this story a happy ending.
