Geoff Wilkes Medical Emergency

Donation protected
It is with a very heavy heart to let you know that Geoff is in ICU in Chanthaburi, Thailand.  His ailments are many and we still do not have a diagnosis at this stage.

Geoff had booked tickets to go back to Australia for health reasons, however has now become far to sick to travel.

The doctors in Thailand are working hard to find a diagnosis, but so far the situation is not looking good.

His current list of ailments and tests include:
- 3 collapsed discs in his back causing extreme pain;
- extremely high levels of calcium in his blood causing complete delirium;
- polyps have been found on his chest/lungs which they are testing further;
- bone cancer is currently being tested through bone marrow;
- blood transfusion as he is somehow losing blood and without the blood his heart will not function;
- constant oxygen because he is not breathing properly.

Due to his age and pre-existing health conditions he is not eligible for health insurance in Thailand.

He has been in ICU for only two days so far and his medical bills have already exceeded AUD10,000.

One of his son's and his beautiful partner are currently with him and have made the decision to move him to a hospital in Bangkok as soon as possible.  This will take a dedicated team to travel the 4 hours via ambulance with him.

In Bangkok we are hoping to stabilise his condition, perform further testing and hopefully receive a diagnosis.

It is important to note that our end goal is an escorted commercial transfer back to Australia, it may be required and it will cost AUD55,000.

The reason we are looking at this option is because everyday in ICU and performing tests, is costing approx. AUD5,000.

At this stage we predict that the medical bills will run at least to AUD100,000.

To give you an idea of what the bills are costing - the oxygen alone to keep him breathing is AUD1,000 per day.

We do have Geoff on ICU waiting lists in public hospitals in Bangkok, but at the moment most of them already have 20 deep in the queue, so we have no other option then the private hospital route.

The original public hospital he was taken to near his home refused to do anything which is why he was moved to the private hospital.

Asking for donations is far from ideal for our family, and for Geoff, however at this stage every dollar that can be donated will alleviate the financial burden for his family.

All donations will be used to cover Geoff's medical bills and emergency repatriation if required, as these all need to be paid upfront.

We will keep updating this page and Geoff's Facebook page with any progression that has been made.  At this stage it is going backwards and with every new test, something different is found.

The photo attached to this post are from just two weeks ago when his son Michael and granddaughter Willow visited him at his home in Thailand.  His health has completely deteriorated since then.

We thank everyone for their support,

Na, Ben, Michael and Luke
