THE PAST & FUTURE OF THIS EVENT

This is a 3 on 3 blind draw basketball tournament that began in 1976 in the backyard of Jim & Betty Gavaghan in Little Flower Parish on the Eastside of Indianapolis.. I kept the tournament going over the years while it grew. The participants were from all different areas and schools on the eastside but mostly from Scecina High School.

As the years went by, the tournament moved from my parent’s house to a friend’s backyard, Lee & Marydel Moran also in Little Flower Parish. The Tournament stayed at Moran’s backyard over the next 15 years and saw many changes and additions.  In 1985, a friend and player in the tourney, Marty Brennan, died after a five year battle with cancer. After Marty’s death, the tournament took another turn when it became a small fundraiser in Marty’s name and donations were sent to Scecina.  The tournament continues to be a fundraiser and still continues to grow. Going back to 1980’s & 1990’s, donations were given to St.Phillip Neri, The Sisters of Charity, and Scecina High School.

In 1997, the tournament moved again this time to my new home in Holy Spirit Parish. The tournament continues to attract new players young and old.  It is a family oriented day with kids and adults. Along with many kids activities after the main event.

This year will mark the 42nd Annual of this tournament.
