Gary (Munchkin) Wilkes Medical Help

$12,860 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 57 people in 12 months
Gary or Munchkin as many of you know him, has been diagnosed with end-stage liver disease and is in need of a liver transplant.  Due to this, he is unable to work and has not been able to for several months.

He currently does not have any health insurance.  He is working towards getting disability, but as you know, government red tape moves slowly.  Meanwhile, there are prescriptions that need to be filled and doctor visits that he has not been able to go to, due to lack of money.

The last few years have been physically hard and emotionally draining as this disease has progressed.  Gary and Sherry have pretty much lost everything because of his inability to work and medical bills.  Believe me, he tried to work as much as possible, but the stress on his body was too much, resulting in multiply hospital stays.  The doctor has now said that Gary is unable to return to work.

If you can find it in your heart, please donate.

Last update on Gary‘s (Munkin‘s) health. He gained his angel wings on Monday, May 6, and went to be with the Lord in Heaven. He will be seeing his mamma, dad, and all the other friends and family that have gone before him. His passing was very peaceful with his family around him. Gary fought hard during his last three years. He wanted to live and be part of the future with his family, but his illness was stronger than his body could withstand. We are so grateful for the time we were able to spend with him and grateful that this time has brought us closer together as a family. We will miss him so much. Life will be a lot more somber without his distinctive voice and boisterous ways. We all love Gary. It won’t be the same here without him.

Thank you to everyone that has donated and been there for Gary and his family. It has meant everything to Sherry and the girls. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for caring.

Daddy has been in the hospital (Clear Lake Methodist) since February 7. He has had many ups and downs but the worst is that we almost lost him on Friday, March 1. They had been talking about sending him home but he took a downward turn and ended up back in ICU. He started bleeding from his esophagus so badly that he almost died. He was very critical and the doctors hoped he would make it through the night. He was intubated, put on a ventilator and in a medical induced coma. Thank you everyone for your prayers. God kept his hand on him and he was finally weaned off the ventilator and was breathing back on his own Thursday March 7. He was moved out of ICU on Friday, March 8. He is very very weak. He has so many things going on with his illness that the doctors are constantly monitoring and adjusting to meet his needs. Sunday, March 10 they found out he now has shingles on top of everything else happening to him. Daddy needs to be transferred to a major hospital that has the capabilities to get him on a liver transplant list. Please pray that this happens.
All money that has been raised on his GoFundMe has been spent, and our family really needs your help. Mom has been by his side the entire time and has had to take a leave of absence from her job to do so. We girls have stepped in and helped as much as we can along with close family members. If you can find it in your heart to help it would be greatly appreciated. If you can’t then please continue to pray for him. We believe that God is the only reason that daddy is still with us today.
We pass on all the encouraging words to him. He knows that you are standing behind him and believes that he can make it through this. It definitely keeps his spirits up.

Gary has been in ICU at the hospital since Saturday evening. He is very sick. He has a collapsed lung with air that has accumulated between the lining of the lung and the lung. He is also fighting pneumonia and has an infection in his blood. His blood pressure has been very low so they were not giving him anything for pain. He was very dehydrated when he went in and he feels like a pin cushion from all the poking and prodding. Finally, they got a good vein and he is able to get his pain meds and his IV antibiotics. They inserted a tube yesterday to release the fluid buildup around his lungs and heart. Gary and Sherry are having a very difficult time financially. If you can find it in your heart to help, please contribute to the GoFundMe that I set up several months. All the money goes to helping them. We really appreciate anything that you can give.

Thank you to everyone that has donated! The money has allowed Gary to see several doctors that he was unable to see previously. We bought tires for their truck because they were at the point where they were going to be stranded on the side of the road. We found out that once he gets social security disability there will still be a 2 year wait to get Medicare. Please donate if you can to allow him to continue seeing the doctors and receiving the medicines that he needs.
