Garrett Colvin’s Medical Journey

Donation protected
Garret Colvin is a 17 year old Junior at St. Paul’s Episcopal School. He is the only child of Damian and Sheila Colvin. Garrett has a passion for soccer and plays for the Mobile United Travel Club Team and the St. Paul’s School Team. He is a mentor and soccer coach to the younger students at St. Paul. Garrett is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Harvest Church. He is an avid outdoorsman and fisherman and a member of The Alba Club.

In the Spring of 2018, Garrett was injured during a soccer game. He was taken to the hospital where he received treatment for a concussion. At the time of the MRI, it was discovered that his pituitary gland appeared to be “enlarged”.

During the next several months, noticeable changes occurred with Garrett including; blurred & double vision, debilitating migraine headaches, unexplained weight loss, constant thirst and frequent urination, lack of concentration, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, restlessness and tiredness.

In December of 2018, as a follow up to the discovery of his “enlarged pituitary gland” and unexplained ongoing symptoms, a contrast MRI was ordered by his physician that would show a more detailed view of his pituitary gland. It was during this procedure that a large benign tumor was found in his brain wrapped around his pituitary gland. The tumor is pushing into his hypothalamus and optic nerves which are causing many of his ongoing unexplained problems.

Garrett will have brain surgery January 15th at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital to remove as much of the tumor as possible. In the meantime, he is undergoing hormone therapy and taking thyroid medication to help treat some of his symptoms.

Post treatment will include radiation treatment, medication, ongoing monitoring and MRI’s. The rest is still unknown due to the rarity of the disease. Garrett’s case is one of only 4 other known cases on the Gulf Coast. The surgeon/specialist treated 2 cases in January and February of 2018 and he has treated no other cases.

No one is ever prepared for something like this. Many have asked what they could do to help so we set up this account to help ease some of the financial burden. What lies ahead is unknown. The expenses and recovery time are unknown. But one thing for certain is that with everyone’s love, support, prayer and a donation, we, as friends and a community can make a difference for Garrett and his family and allow them to face this journey together as a family and never leave each other’s side.

Please consider a donation of whatever you can and leave a message for Garrett to have during his recovery.  THANK YOU for your love, support and prayers.
