My name is Marsha Chose. I am a local game enthusiast in the community. I am a teacher at a school in the community of Pahoa. During my time teaching at Pahoa High and Intermediate School, I created the PHIS Table Top Gaming Club -- the initial goal being to provide a safe place to explore fun, new, educational hobbies during non-instructional time. With the help of several key members in the Big Island gaming community, we have been able to host smaller events for the students. I have received so much positive feedback about the club from faculty, staff, administration, students and parents.
One of the challenges with a club like this in our area is the lack of a gathering place, somewhere safe for students to go when they weren't at school. While the local community has an excellent local recreational center for basketball and physical activity, it definitely lacks anywhere that a person could use to stretch their intellectual muscle. In addition, procuring regular supplies - cards and other accessories for the kids - was a major challenge.
Originally, I had planned to work in concert with the local gaming store, Game Knights, in order to either have the kids be able to go to events at the store, or to have the events come to them every once in a while.
Due to the sudden closing of this regional gaming store, and with an opportunity for a space opening up in Pahoa, I am looking to open a gaming store. To this end, I have three major goals:
1. The Primary focus of the location is to provide a safe, family-friendly and fun place for the youth in this community. There is a huge lack of an indoor activity space, and this serves to fill that gap. Most of our events will be targeted towards the youth in Pahoa and the surrounding communities. We will host Magic the Gathering legacy pauper deck tournaments, Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, Pokemon leagues and Escape rooms. If the business is successful and receives enough support from the community, additional expansions will be done in this area. These would include other games, events and even some video arcade games.
2. In addition, another goal of the store is to provide a location for the greater community to enjoy Magic the Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, Pokemon, and other tabletop games - all of which will need the required sealed product as well as the various accessories that are associated with those games. As the closest local game store will soon be all the way in Kona, the need exists on the east side of the Big Island. As such, I intend to become a WPN (Wizards Play Network) retailer and provide these important supplies to the community at large.
3. Our third goal is to offer a special space that can be reserved out for private gaming parties, availability dependent on the weekly schedule. For this room, we offer an escape room package, or for those roleplaying enthusiasts, DnD room packages or other private tabletop game events like Warhammer 40k.
With your donations toward the goal of $2200, we intend to use this initial start-up capital for fixtures (tables, chairs, and shelving) as well as initial supplies.
While I understand these startup costs are fairly large, I know that Gam3Escape will be a welcome addition to Pahoa, as well as the greater Big Island Gaming Community. If you agree and want to be a part of this please share your support.
