On August 13, 2018 Gaby Barbier was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. We knew it was going to be a tough battle, but nothing could prepare us for the pain and grief of having to say goodbye so fast. This has been the hardest time of our lives and something we hoped would never come to be.
It is with great sadness that we announce Gaby's unexpected passing at the age of 49 on, Saturday, September 29, 2018. She was the centre of our universe. She was our light. Our calm. Our everything. Her laugh and smile lit up any room she walked in. Gaby will be deeply missed by her loving family; husband, Chris Barbier; daughter, Linsay Smetaniuk; and son, Jan Barbier, and her many, many friends.
1-in-75 women will be diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in their lifetime. As there are no early screening detections, many women are diagnosed at a later stage, making this cancer a silent killer. Funding for more research into this disease is important to our family, therefore in lieu of flowers or cards, we would like to submit a donation on behalf of Gaby to the Ovarian Cancer Society of Canada.

A celebration of life for Gaby is currently undergoing planning and we will keep everyone updated.
