disabled combat veteran home repair

When 17-year-old Kenneth Gilmore enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War, he was trained as a cook. When Gilmore arrived in Vietnam in August of 1971, he was assigned as a helicopter door gunner. Gilmore had never been in a helicopter in his life.
After receiving an honorable discharge and returning home in 1973, Gilmore was later diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – one of the first veterans to be diagnosed.
He spent his adulthood struggling with jobs and finances, and after years of neglect, found his home to be unlivable. A severely deteriorated cedar shake roof, water damage to the ceiling, damaged soffit and siding from water leaks and animal infestation in the attic.
Church volunteers provided labor. A community group obtained a disabled veteran's grant for building materials and a local roofing company replaced the new roof. Volunteers began their work the first week of September. Projects completed include the new roof, exterior repairs, new gutters, painting the exterior, repairing and painting the ceilings. Still more needs to be done though.
The one project remaining is removal and replacement of attic insulation because of horrible contamination with animal waste. Because of this hazardous material, removal has to be accomplished by a knowledgeable Contractor. $4500 is needed for this final step.
