Picture this: It's Sunday evening. You’ve just finished with the household chores, prepped for the week ahead, (okay well maybe just prepped for tomorrow but, that still counts.) Everything seems okay as the weekend comes to a close, until you get a phone call. You hear the news that your cousin has cancer.
Your heart stops. There is a long silence, or at least, it feels like an eternity. The fondest memories you have with her come to mind in a flash and simultaneously fill your heart with love for her, and then shatter as the realization of the severity of her condition registers. Your thoughts race as you try to figure out what that means for your family. You think of your Aunt, Uncle and her sisters. You think of your cousin's son. Your heart breaks into a million pieces.
I’m sure many of you reading this have had a similar call and can understand the feeling of helplessness. Which is why we set up a fundraiser to help my cousin, Lisa Kirkland.
Let me tell you about Lisa:
She has spent her entire adult life working for non-profits, helping those less fortunate than herself and helped many people get back on their feet. She has devoted her time and energy to help those less fortunate and loved doing it.
She is a single mother, and raised arguably one of the nicest and coolest (he might be the coolest family member out of all of us) young men in our family and shares the big-heart that his mother has. She is a matriarchal figure to the entire family and has been a source of steady wisdom and unwavering love. She's the definition of a strong, independent woman, and we know she won’t let the battle go without a fight!
We are hoping to raise $50,000 for medical bills and living expenses. If Lisa has touched your life in any way, or even if you feel inclined to just donate, please do so. Any amount will go a long way to assist her with this long fight with cancer.
