Help Heal Chuck

Chuck, also known as "Chucklehead" or "Charlie,"  is the Gonfalon Farm border collie/something mascot. Adopted from an animal shelter in Waterloo, N.Y., seven years ago, he has brought great joy to farm visitors, including autisic and special needs kids, elderly and other animal friends.  Yesterday, Chuck hurt his back, and is paralyzed in one rear leg, and partially paralyzed in the other,  and is now at the Veternary Specialist of Rochester. He needs at minimum, an MRI and then followed by a surgery, which we have been told will cost up to *$8,000 (as of 10/21/2014, we are now looking at about $4,000). While we were prepared for a bill up to $3,000, there is no way, even with a loan, that we could pay for an $8,000 surgery. Chuck is loved by so many, and brings such great joy to many people.  So, I am reaching out, asking if you can help to fund the care, rehabilitation and surgery that Chuckhead needs to remain part of our farm family for the rest of his life. It's not just a fund-raiser? Want compost? We will deliver a small truckload of compost within a 20 mile radius of Mendon for a donation of $50 or more. $1,000 gets you 52 rides in Mendon Ponds Park on "Big John," Chuck's draft-cross horse friend  (*but you must have riding experience and be over 18).

Hello everyone. It is indeed a Merry Christmas with Chuck back to his shenanigans at the farm, that includes jumping in my bed at night and messing up all the blankets and pillows, and then believing that he can actually stay there, or scattering cat food cans all around and hiding them in various places. I would call Chuck's progress "guarded." He can't scratch with his left back leg, and his back seems a little crooked, but I do daily stretches with him to try and keep him flexible. Although he had a small setback about 3 weeks ago, we have stopped physical therapy due to the cost of $60 per visit. I am not complaining. Theravet Acres was wonderful, and without them, I doubt that I would have my dog. I never understood "pack mentality" and how it could carry over to humans until Chuck was missing from my daily life, and I thank-you all for giving me the best Christmas present ever -- to have my Chuckle-head home and by my side. Thank-you everyone for blessing me and Chuck with your support.
I just messed up mom's bed.

Chuck has his ups and downs. Today, for some reason he's fallen three times -- twice going up the stairs, and coming out of the car. But, considering where we were three weeks ago??? I'll take it! Please send addresses where Chuck and I can send thank-you notes to all.
Let me tell you about my day...

Hi everyone! Here is Charlie on Day 14 of his rehab! He has lost quite a bit of weight... no stealing out of bread drawers or getting into cat food in this place! He will be picked up on Friday, Oct. 31 at NOON. Our vet bills for Charlie's rehabilitation stand at $4,784.29. He will still need some more rehab visits after he leaves, and I need to put in some of those "stair treads" but considering what we were dealing with 14 days ago, it's nothing short of ... another story to add to the Charlie diaries (you thought I was going to say "miracle"?)

Chuck loves to steal and bury cat food cans. They are everywhere around the farm. The bad part is, the cat food bill can get pretty expensive. The good part is, when I run out of cat food, I just need to go on a treasure hunt for one of Chuck's buried treasures. I am so grateful that my dog has a second chance at life; that we did not euthanize him when presented with the possibility of an $8,000 bill; that I sought advice and help from people known and unknown when I did not know what to do.
Buried for future use...
