Fentanyl Awareness UK

The evolution of the Illicit drug market  has over the years presented us with various reasons for concern many being catagorised as crisis situations, and historically, our response to some of the high risk situations that have arisen from the ever increasing market of synthetic substances  has, to date, been counteractive in its attempts to minimise the negative impact of these new arena's,  where our knowledge base continues to grow, admittedly, but not before there has been irreparable damage within our communities.

The UK is currently struggling to cope with increasing financial pressures, the effects of which are being felt in ever aspect of our communities. One area that is significantly struggling is healthcare and all related areas that contribute towards the health and wellbeing of our community members.

As a direct result of the continued disinvestment in healthcare, providers are under significantly increasing pressure to continue providing effective and adequate healthare that meets the Nations needs.

As concerned citizens I feel that we could relieve 'some' of the additional pressures, and the resulting stress and strain on our emergency services by ensuring that the relevant information regarding 'potential threats' to the health and wellbeing of our communities is by ensuring that relevant information is disseminated in the public domain by way of a comprehensive package that includes background to current issues, risks to both individuals and the wider community, a look at the potential barriers and possible solutions to the issues, specialised training relating to the issue highlighting evidence based solutions that have been utilised elsewhere to minimise the negative impact, etc.

The more resources that are available, the more aware we can be in addressing issues that affect our communities. This also reduces the risk of misinformation being spread around our communities due to misrepresentation and the sensationalising methods adopted by certain media outlets. This can add to an already dangerous scenario, increasing related hysteria which is also dangerous in practice and counterproductive by nature.

In relation to this particular topic. We have long been in the grip of an global opioid crisis. One that has seen the persistant rise in drug related deaths for 3 consecutive years.
It has become glaringly evident that our current approach towards drug policy is one that fails to consider the widespread impact of addiction in a wider context, failing to address the underlying issues and resulting impact this has on the using community and, on the wider community in general.

The cost of overlooking such an prevalent area of concern as a topic for indepth analysis, has a profound effect on the emotional, mental and physical status of nearly every member of the community bar none.

Financially the increasing cost of enforcing criminal justice approaches, which in 2009 was a staggering £16 billion, compared with the effective implimentation of a comprehensive and inclusive Public Health approach is significantly more to uphold.

The criminal justice approach has been fruitless in every attempt to either control or minimise the problems attributed to substance use and abuse. Drug quality has increased, prices have dropped, new substances are appearing on the drug market daily and our prisons are overcrowded with high rates of  non-violent drug offences pushing our Criminal Justice department beyond breaking point.

Help me to raise awareness of the risks that we are facing in this increasingly dangerous area of concern by supporting me to build a campaign aimed at dispelling the myths and spreading the facts. Starting with the introduction of illicitly produced Fentanyl's into the UK's drug marketplace and the devastating effects this has had on other areas to date.

Some additional insight into the effects this can have on parents who have lost children...

This is just the tip of the iceberg, ask yourself how would you feel if your child was next....

Support campaigns such as Anyones Child  are available, with many looking towards the decriminalisation, regulation and monitoring of substances

But resources for relevant training in related issues are few. I'm appealing or your support to increase the prevalence of training options and expand community resources by initiating sessions designed to increase awareness and reduce the negative impact. Please help me.
