Funeral expenses for Lea Matlock

First and foremost,  thank you so much for taking the time to read this. And for anyone who does not know me, my name is Tiffany Dougar and I am married to Danielle, Lea’s oldest daughter.

On Saturday June 8th, we received a phone call from Lea’s husband George (Jake) Matlock that will forever be engraved in our minds,  “Dan, moms not breathing, the ambulance is taking her” were the only words he could manage to say.

No one in the family had a chance to say goodbye to Lea, we arrived at the hospital immediately and only to be met with “we’re sorry at this time no one can see her”. Shortly after they brought our family into a small room to give their condolences.

Lea had been fighting for her life for quite some time, starting in 2015 she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a rare neuromuscular disorder. While battling this life threatening disorder, she was diagnosed with Thymoma cancer which itself is rare and very difficult to treat due to the lack of studies on this disease. Lea was strong and fought everyday through all of this, doing her best to still take care of her beloved husband Jake while he worked two jobs everyday to help manage the exhausting and never ending medical bills. Jake was only able to stop home for a brief time in between jobs to grab something to eat and Lea would do her best to always have dinner ready.

This may not have been the ideal life they have planned together but they never lost hope and continued fighting to get Lea healthy once again. That was until their strength would be tested once again. In January 2019, Jake was diagnosed with Laryngeal cancer. The entire family was rocked once again. I remember the devastation in Lea’s eyes. Jake remained strong for Lea’s sake but we all knew he was scared and knew he was struggling. Jake would say “Lea’s clearly stronger then me, because this chemo is kicking my ass”.  He stayed strong  to complete his treatments but never imagined the strength he would need until recently when he lost his only son Mikey at the age of 39. And now with the loss of his beloved wife just two weeks later.

Since Jakes diagnosis he was only able to keep one of his jobs which he hasn’t been able to work while battling cancer. His first day back to work was supposed to be this Monday June 10th.

With all this said the financial burden is weighing heavy for Jake and my family and we appreciate anything you could contribute to Lea’s funeral expenses. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Our family is truly grateful.
