Funeral Expenses for Jed Leiknes

$24,358 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 480 people in 5 months
Jed Leiknes was my son, my shining star and best friend.

He was a loving brother, friend and incredible dad to his daughter Avery.  A beautiful soul, broken at times but hopeful for so long, he found solace and healing through his art and his love for his family. He drew from his pain to create beautiful things. Not long ago, anxiety and depression became overwhelming for him and he sought out professional help but it was too little, too late. On December 22, 2017, Jed took his own life.

Jed's incredible tattoo work, paintings and other artwork will live on without him but will remind those of us he left behind that he is still with us.

In the wake of his death, we are left with not only his final expenses but the task organizing and taking care of all of his personal matters including shipping artwork and his final bills. We could not have been less prepared for this. Jed truly would not have wanted this for any of us but that is what depression can do.

I ask those of you who either knew or knew of Jed to please help.

He touched your life in some way. He was a loyal friend, he lovingly tattooed a memorial or just something crazy and wonderful on you, he painted you something magnificent or just lifted you up with his his humor.

The proceeds of this GoFundMe will help pay his funeral expenses and allow me to be able try to finish all he had going before he died like shipping your paintings and trying to tie up loose ends, pay his final bills and, of course, help his daughter Avery and Avery’s mom Amanda.

Please share this with friends and artist friends. Any additional funds will be earmarked as scholarship fund or something in that regard to help young artists and tattoo artists with an emphasis on depression and suicide awareness as those rates are phenonemally high with creatives.

I know this will be seen by artists of every kind. Please know there is help for depression. If you find it hard to reach out personally, help really is a phone call away: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and if you know of someone, anyone struggling, please reach out.

With love and great sadness,
Christine Calnin aka Jed's Mom

Hello to all. It’s been a busy and difficult week but I haven’t forgotten anyone. Jed’s immediate expenses have been covered thanks to the generosity of friends, family and so many others who were touched in some way by Jed or his story.

There are still several financial obligations to cover for him but we are working on that as best we can.

In the next couple of months, I would like to create a collector card for Jed and will offer that to all who have donated. So at that time you will get a private thank you from us and I can get your mailing address if you would like one.

Once again, thank you to all from our family. Love and best wishes to you and yours in the new year

For anyone interested, dear friends of Jed are having an art auction that will help our family. Some amazing artists are offering pieces and there are also a couple of originals by Jed that have been donated. Truly incredible and generous!

Please take a look and share with like minded friends. Thank you and bless you!

We are absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity of friends of Jed and family but also from people who have never met him. Just unbelievable. It’s perhaps cliche to say there are no words but it is true. I can’t come up with any to express my gratitude for every donation.

After much discussion we have decided to raise the amount as Jed’s insurance situation is currently unknown and also the tragedy of suicide plays into any insurance he may have for his daughter Avery and her mom Amanda. Of course we are very close with Avery and Amanda and want to do everything to be able to help them. Avery has summer daycare to pay as Amanda works full-time. Even things to pay like Avery‘s dance class, which she loves, and which Jed adored - seeing her dancing around his apartment several days a week. There will also be no child support from Jed to help. We do not want Amanda to have any more stress as she is not only dealing with her own grief, but Avery’s who just wants her dad to come back to life.

Thank you again and as promised, I will thank each and every one of you personally. We just need to get through this agonizing time. I am hoping to create a memorial card for Jed to send out to those who have donated very soon.

With gratitude, love and hope,
Christine Calnin aka Jed’s Mom

I want to thank each and every one who has donated personally, but for now, I'm trying to catch my breath. Thank you for your love and patience. Just know we appreciate you and know that Jed thanks you from his place in the stars.
