Funeral Arrangements for Both My Parents

Donation protected
My family and I have been very hesitant to create this GoFundMe page but our circumstances have been extraordinary. We have both our parents very sick and on hospice care.

To share a little of what our life has been in the last few months would only be an understatement in words.

Last August my father, Americo Loera Sr., became very sick prior to his gallbladder removal and my family and I fought for him every day. Fortunately, after almost 7 weeks in the hospital, he returned home and life I thought would go back to normal. I took great pride in knowing we had done everything we could for him and essentially saved his life.

Months passed and I remember taking him to the doctor a few times because his appetite was never the same. I don't think anyone in our family ever imagined being in this situation. We were definitely not prepared for what was to come.

February 22 of this year, my dad was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer that had already metastasized. Doctors said he could no longer undergo any treatment and he only had a few days left to live. This time I knew I couldn't help save him. What my family and I experienced that day forever changed us. Life completely stopped. I grew up always being very close to my parents and this has just been so overwhelming. My dad became my strength after my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's almost 9 years ago.

It was our decision to bring him home and keep him comfortable during his last days in hospice care.

All this going on while taking care of mom at home. Soon after dad was brought home, mom became sick and was hospitalized. She is still in the hospital 8 weeks later. She was recently in ICU where her condition has worsened . She has not shown any signs of improvement and is being fed through a nasogastric tube. The doctors say she is declining and has not been as responsive to treatment. The doctors have mentioned hospice as a means to keep her comfortable. We have decided on home hospice for mom as well.

It's been 9 weeks since we brought him home, Dad is extremely sick but reality begins to sink in. He continues to hold on. I'm not surprised because he was always a strong man. Unfortunately, our hospice team tells us otherwise.
Dad stopped eating the small amount that he was a couple weeks ago and simply takes few sips of water throughout the day. He often gets scared but we lay in the bed with him or we sit on the floor and hold his hand to comfort him... and we pray. We pray for comfort and peace.

Dad has worsened in the last 24hrs. We fear we might have come to the end of this battle. We hope to have mom and dad together at home soon.

My sister Nelly, Susan, and I are fortunate to have such amazing people in our lives
that have allowed us to take time off of work to care for our family. You don't plan for these things but life has a way of putting everything into place.

This is an undescribable feeling of impotence, fear, and sadness. I will forever hold my papi in my heart knowing life will never be the same.

With heavy hearts, we are making funeral arrangements for both my parents. We humbly ask for help during this time. Anything will help cover both funeral and medical expenses for both of my parents.

Most importantly, we ask for prayers as we believe in the power of prayer. Prayers for unity, peace, and comfort.

My brothers and sisters and I make an amazing team together. I'm so proud to be their little sister. I lean on them during this extremely difficult time. Our parents taught us everything except how to let go.

We love you mami and papi, forever your little girl...

Please continue to pray for my family and offer words of encouragement and strength. We are forever grateful for each and every one of you.
