No greater pain exists than the agony of losing a child!
Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. Blood stops flowing from the brain and other vital organs.

The Owusu -Mensah’s family lost their 11-year-old son, a brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to many, Damien Owusu – Mensah, whose sudden demise occurred on October 15th. Damien like other kids, was home on that night, watching a movie on Netflix, he became short of breath, to reach out for his medically approved inhaler, he suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness.

The father jumped in and performed CPR while her sisters reached out to 911 for help. Emergency responders who arrived minutes later rushed Damien to the UMASS pediatric Unit. The doctors informed the family that he had 3 times, gain consciousness and lost it leading the brain cells to lose oxygen. After arriving at the hospital and receiving medications and more defibrillation, the E.R. staff was able to get a pulse on Damien right before the doctor was proposing a time of death.

The parents, siblings, and entire family were asked to come to the room, and they said if Damien didn't regain consciousness, they would have to cool his body to help protect his brain. The doctors intubated Damien with ventilator.

He was declared brain dead, while the rest of his vital organs began to shut down slowly since there were no signs of life. He stayed in the hospital for three (3) days. A final test was performed to show any activity in the brain and yet proved futile. Damien left unexpectedly, such a sweet, kind, and caring little young man - the last boy of the two boys in addition to the three girls of the Owusu– Mensah’s family. He had wished to be a Police Officer one day.

The family and the entire community mourn over a life taken too soon from us.We are hurt! We are broken and can’t wrap our minds around Damien’s sudden death.

In this challenging season, while we go through the process of making final funeral arrangements, the family would like to ask for contributions to help offset funeral and burial expenses.

Every donation given will go 100% towards giving Damien a befitting burial and send off. Please support us in this season.

Mr. Paul Owusu- Mensah (Father of Damien) will receive all the funds.

God bless you as you give.
