Automated External Defibrillator (AEDs)
AEDs are portable electronic devices that can be used to restart the heart in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. An AED can be the difference between life and death.
When people wait for paramedics to administer the first shock, the survival rate from a sudden cardiac arrest is only 5-7%. However, when people use an AED and CPR on a casualty within the first three to five minutes of a heart stopping, survival rates are as high as 60%.

We need your help
Metros are a small, not for profit running club of around 250 members based in Harrow, North West London. We support the running aspirations of people of all ages and abilities, from children and beginners, to occasional joggers and dedicated marathoners. We don’t currently own an AED, however as our membership continues to grow the risks of someone needing one increases. We've therefore therefore decided to fundraise for this life saving piece of equipment.
Amount: We have set ourselves a fundraising target of £1,500 to cover the cost of the AED, basic training and upkeep costs
When: We’re aiming to have the AED in time for our Summer League race in June so the fundraising page will close in mid-May
Where: The AED will be available at our main races (Harrow Hill 10k, Summer League, Cross Country, Vets track & field, Round Norfolk Relay) and at as many of our training sessions as possible. Logistics of where it will be kept will be worked out but statistically most incidents where an AED is required is at the end of a race
