Fundraiser for WISER School Business Bootcamp

Donation protected
The Women's Institute for Education and Research (WISER Girls Secondary School, located in Muhuru Bay, Kenya, provides fully-funded secondary education, clothes, safe housing, meals, medicines, psycho-social support, leadership opportunities, and reproductive health education.

Sexual, physical and psychological abuse of girls is prevalent in many Kenyan schools and has been shown to lead to low aspirations, low self-esteem, and under-achievement. In addition to abuse such as this, girls usually drop out of school due to pregnancy; child marriage; or becoming AIDS orphans. However, despite a 75% dropout rate in neighbouring schools (51% due to early pregnancy), no student has ever dropped out of the WISER Girls Secondary School.

Since 2010, Johnson & Johnson has supported WISER’s efforts by travelling to Kenya to run a Business Bootcamp to teach the girls skills they will need to operate as professionals in the world. On the 19th of March, I will be travelling to Kenya with J&J to take part in this initiative.

I would really, really appreciate your help in allowing me to take part in this trip! Working to ease the plight of young girls in disadvantaged communities is something that I'm so passionate about and have been for a long time.

There are significant travel, accommodation and medical costs associated with the trip so any donation, no matter how small, would be a help to me. If any extra money is raised, this will be donated directly to WISER itself.

The WISER School is based on three educational pillars:

1.       Remove all gender-based sexual, physical and psychological abuse from the educational system. WISER girls thrive in a climate of safety, respect, and high expectations.

2.       Provide weekly psycho-social support and counselling for all students to build empowerment and leadership skills, raising girls’ ambitions and their ability to achieve them.

3.       Provide strong and supportive mentors and role models in the faculty, including the first female principal in the district. Most girls in Muhuru Bay had never met a university-educated woman.
